Brick Township 52, Toms River East 49

Brick Township outscored Toms River East 14-10 in the 3rd quarter to break a 24-24 tie and win their first game of the season. Freshman Ariana Wissen scored 25 points in just her second high school game and converted six 3-pointers to lead the Dragons. Senior Riley Nausedas added 15 points for Brick Township. Sophomore Kacey Briles went 7 out of 8 from the foul line to score a team-high 16 points for the Raiders.

Howell 67, Donovan Catholic 34

Howell jumped out to a 26-6 lead at the end of the 1st quarter and never looked back to move to 2-0 on the season. Junior BellaRose Marino scored a game-high 21 points and converted five 3-pointers to lead the Rebels while Senior Kiera McKown added 18 points and Sophomore Kylee Beam chipped in 9 points for Howell. Donovan Catholic was led by Sophomore Kaylen Wright who finished with 15 points on five 3-pointers.

Freehold Boro 44, Central 40

Freehold Boro turned a 1 point deficit at the end of the 3rd quarter into a 4 point victory. Senior Sayuri Penaranda led the Colonials with 17 point and 11 rebound double-double while Senior Christina Sikaras added 12 points and Sophomore Avery Wyatt chipped in 8 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Central was led by Junior Emma Christensen who scored a game-high 18 points.

Keyport 39, Asbury Park 15

Keyport’s tremendous team defense helped the Red Raiders pull away from Asbury Park and record their first victory of the season. The Red Raiders outscored the Blue Bishops 14-0 in the 1st quarter and never looked back. Junior Gia Aceta put up a double-double of 18 points and 18 rebounds to pace Keyport while Junior Skylar Breen added 11 points and Junior Jenna O’Brien chipped in 8 points.

Hun 52, Shore Regional 32

Senior Kimi Sayson led the Blue Devils with 12 points while Senior Reese Fiore added 11 points in the loss for Shore.

 

Location:  Red Bank Catholic, Red Bank

No. 1 Red Bank Catholic 61, Virginia Academy (VA) 37 

Red Bank Catholic opened up the game with a 20-9 1st quarter lead and never looked back in a victory over Virginia Academy. The Caseys were paced by Junior Addy Nyemchek who led all scorers with 24 points while Senior Christina Liggio added 9 points. Senior Tessa Carman and Junior Sophie Smith also chipped in with 8 points apiece for Red Bank Catholic in the victory.

Paul VI 61,  No. 2 St. John Vianney 48

St. John Vianney dropped their 1st game of the season after falling behind 34-13 at the half. Junior Stella Lockhart led the Lancers with 19 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.

Dunellen 44, Henry Hudson 30

A slow start plagued Henry Hudson in the loss to Dunellen as they trailed 20-9 at the half. Freshman Leah Curry led the Admirals with a team-high 10 points in the loss.

Barnegat 48, Seneca 28

Barnegat raced past Seneca turning a 21-12 halftime lead into a 40-15 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter after outscoring Seneca 19-3 to start the 2nd half. Senior Emma Thornton led the way for the Bengals with a 15 point and 16 rebound double-double. Senior Riley Fitzpatrick added 13 points and Senior Zemirah Enalls added 11 points along with 8 rebounds in the victory.
