Class B North

Holmdel 4, Freehold 2

Junior forward Rachel Yasnowski tied the game off a Lily Reardon corner kick in the 69th minute to start a four-goal run that sent the Hornets (1-0, 1-0) past the Colonials (0-1, 0-1) in the season opener for both teams.

Freshman forward Aylen Peters scored the eventual game-winning goal off a pass from Yasnowski with 7:30 left and Yasnowski added her second goal of the game to make it 3-1 with four minutes remaining. Senior midfielder Julia Chyzowych closed out the scoring for Holmdel in the 78th minute before Freehold added a goal by sophomore Shea Patmore on a penalty kick in the final minute.

Senior Olivia Preston scored the game’s first goal to give Freehold a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute.

 

Nondivisional

Manchester 2, Ranney 1

The Hawks (1-0) built a 2-0 lead on a first-half goal by senior midfielder Emma Edwards and later on freshman Jesse Sarana’s strike in the second half as they held on to beat the Panthers (0-1).

Senior goalkeeper Kaia Buckley made 12 saves and junior Alex Wnek added one assist.

Senior midfielder Brooke Davis scored once and senior keeper Katie Renaud made 19 saves for Ranney.

 

Toms River North 1, Southern 0

Senior forward Sofia Backle scored off an assist from sophomore forward Lauren Kuhn and sophomore keeper Lena Salvaggione made six saves to send the Mariners (1-1) to a victory over the Rams (0-1).

Senior goalkeeper Kelly Quinn made nine saves for Southern.
