Following a forgettable season-opening loss to CBA, Tassey and his team have bounced back in ideal fashion. The senior has been an enhanced version of the all-around talent who helped lead Freehold Boro to its first NJSIAA sectional title in 51 years last season. Through the first four games, Tassey averaged 21.5 points, 8.75 rebounds, 4.25 assists and 3.75 blocks, including a career-best performance (37 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, seven blocks) in a win over North Brunswick on Dec. 17.

Tassey continued his strong start to the season in the Buc Classic, during which he averaged 18 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 2.3 blocks in leading the Colonials to a second-place finish — including 27 points in a championship-game loss to Red Bank. Through seven games this season, Tassey is averaging 20 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 3.3 blocks per game.

The first Player of the Week award came down to Tassey and Manalapan senior Aiden Sosinov, with Tassey winning the poll over his counterpart by a margin of 43.5 percent to 32.7.
