Week 0 Dick’s House of Sport Shore Conference Football Player of the Week

Tyler Pierce, Sr., QB, Brick Memorial

Senior quarterback Tyler Pierce could hardly have asked for a better debut as Brick Memorial’s new starter. Pierce completed 12 of 14 passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns while adding 82 yards and another score on just five carries to lead the Mustangs to a 28-3 victory over Wall.

Pierce made an impact with his legs early, breaking loose for a 30-yard touchdown run to give Brick Memorial a 7-3 lead in the first quarter. He later connected with senior running back Colin Schoellkopf for a touchdown before providing one of the more memorable moments of the opening weekend.

After Brick Memorial put together a 13-play, 73-yard drive that consumed nearly the entire third quarter, Pierce rolled to his right and found his twin brother, senior wide receiver Casey Pierce, for a 5-yard touchdown that extended the Mustangs’ lead to 28-3. The brothers had dreamed about connecting for a touchdown since they were kids, and they made it happen in Tyler’s first varsity start.

Pierce’s performance was especially encouraging for a Brick Memorial team replacing record-setting quarterback Jason Lajara. Between his efficiency through the air and explosiveness as a runner, Pierce accounted for three touchdowns and nearly 200 yards of offense while helping the defending sectional champions open the season with a convincing victory.

Pierce was awarded a $50.00 gift certificate to Dick’s House of Sport.
