St. John Vianney Rolls Past Raritan Behind Corleii Thomas and Stout Defense

St. John Vianney spoiled Raritan’s season opener and roared to its first win of the season by knocking off the visiting Rockets 35-7 on Friday night.

The victory for the Lancers (1-1) also marked the first career win for first-year head coach Greg Penta.

Junior running back Corleii Thomas had a pair of touchdown runs and senior Danny Breen added a 47-yard touchdown burst.

Senior quarterback Zach LaBarca threw a 54-yard touchdown pass to senior wideout Adam Urs, and senior D.J. Carter scored on an 85-yard kickoff return.

The defense also stifled the Rockets, who lost junior quarterback Parker Needham to an injury during the game.

The Lancers move on to face Freehold Township (1-0) next week, while the Rockets will try to regroup on the road against Ocean (1-1).
