No. 3 Red Bank Catholic 3, Middletown North 0

Sophomore pitcher Mackenna Savage struck out 12 batters and allowed just one hit and two walks in a complete game shutout in the Caseys (1-0, 1-0) victory over the Lions (1-1, 0-1). Savage also went 2-for-2 at the plate with two home runs, a walk, and three RBI’s. Junior SS Grace Lombardi was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk. Sophomore LF Brooke Rodriguez finished 2-for-3.

No. 1 St. John Vianney 5, No. 6 Middletown South 0

Senior Madison McDougall picthed a no-hitter and struck out 16 batters for St. John Vianney (1-0) in their first game of the season. Sophomores Olivia Lombardi and Lexi Csontos lead the Lancers at the plate, both driving in a run. Csontos went 2-for-3 with a double. Junior Brynn Utter added two hits and had one RBI and run scored.

Colonial

Howell 4, Freehold Township 1 (9 Innings)

Howell (1-1) needed 9 innings to break a 1-1 tie with rival Freehold Township (0-1) to win their first game of the season. A classic pitching dual that saw a combined 29 strikeouts. The Rebels scored three runs in the top of the 9th inning with Alyssa Morales, Madison Winemiller and Hannah Bowers all driving in a run. Freshman Gianna Lisa struck out 12 batters for Howell and only allowed four hits in the game. Sophomore Ellie Beam connected on her second homerun of the season in the 4th inning to tie the game at one.

Junior Kiana DeMonte struck out 17 batters for the Patriots. Freshman Madeline Musante went 3-for-4 with a double and drove in Freehold Township’s only run.

No. 7 Raritan 7, Matawan 1

Leading 2-1 in the 6th inning, Raritan (1-0) scored five runs to seal their first win of the season over Matawan (0-1). Sophomore Katelyn Ruta struck out 8 batters to earn the victory for the Rockets. Sophomore Lila Houlihan and Janelle Clausi both drove in two runs each and Abigail Rehfeld went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored for Raritan. Sophomore Brielle Brosonski connected on her first homerun of the season.

No. 10 Holmdel 14, Wall 2

Sophomores Kylee Lau and Molly Debias both went a perfect 3-for-3 and drove in three runs each to lead Holmdel (1-0) in their home opener. Holmdel scored eight runs in the 1st inning and held Wall (1-2) to just two hits in the victory. Senior Julia Henderson struck out nine batters and did not allow an earned run. Henderson also added three hits and scored two runs for the Hornets.

Sophomore Essie Harr went 1-for-2 for Wall with a run scored and RBI.

Constitution

Freehold Boro 17, Manasquan 2

Freehold Boro (1-0) wasted no time against Manasquan (0-2), scoring 12 runs in the top of the 1st inning to win their first game of the season. Freshman Jackie Russo went 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs in her first game of her career. Freshman Vanessa Karabin struck out eight batters to earn her first career victory at Freehold Boro. Junior Paige Sheridan went 2-for-3 with a double and drove in two runs and scored two runs for the Colonials.

Senior Delia Gilmore hit her first homerun of the season for Manasquan.

Patriot

Keyport 24, Long Branch 11

Junior Madelyn Pinto went 3-for-6 with a home run and five RBI’s as the Red Raiders (2-0, 1-0) lit up the scoreboard against the Green Wave (0-1, 0-1). Senior Ava Mitchell finished 4-for-4 with a triple and four RBI’s. Freshman Madison Ortiz was 4-for-4 with a triple and four RBI’s. Senior Nicolette Sickles went 3-for-4 with four RBI’s.
