Week 4 Thursday Night Football Game of the Week Presented by Sansone Jr’s Kia

An old Ocean County rivalry will take the center stage under the lights Thursday night, and Shore Sports Insider will be on hand with full game coverage.

Tonight’s Shore Conference Thursday Night Football coverage is presented by Sansone Jr’s Kia, including Sansone Jr’s 66 Kia in Neptune and Sansone Jr’s Keyport Kia.

Toms River South (3-1) travels to Brick (2-2) at 6 p.m. in an important Class B South game. The Indians are 2-0 within the division and are hoping to keep pace with Pinelands in first place, while the Dragons need a win to propel themselves back into the race.

Preview

The Dragons unveiled a new wrinkle in last week’s 14-7 win over Central, moving senior running back Rowan Foy to quarterback and featuring him heavily in the running game. Foy responded with a season-high 138 yards on 24 carries.

Brick has been one-dimensional offensively to this point, attempting just 21 passes compared to a whopping 149 rushing attempts. That creates an interesting matchup against one of the biggest strengths of the Indians’ defense: a ball-hawking secondary that has recorded seven interceptions this season, led by junior Hamza Hollingshead with three.

First down will be critical in this matchup. If Toms River South can force Brick into obvious passing situations, it will give its secondary opportunities to make plays on the football. If the Dragons can stay ahead of the chains and dictate the game on the ground, they can limit the impact of the Indians’ biggest defensive strength.

Toms River South has also leaned heavily on the run, with 117 rushing attempts compared to 48 passes, although the Indians have produced just under 500 yards both rushing and passing this season.

Slowing down senior running back Kavon Metellus will be Brick’s top priority. Metellus has found the end zone five times through four games and remains the biggest scoring threat in the Indians’ offense.
