2024: Barnegat 47, New Egypt 7

Preview

The Bengals enter this matchup as a significant favorite, carrying a perfect 5-0 record into the game. The teams have two common opponents in Lakewood and Manchester, and while their results against Lakewood were similar, their performances against Manchester tell a much different story. Barnegat overwhelmed Manchester, 55-6, while New Egypt suffered a 7-3 loss to the Hawks.

Barnegat has dominated on both sides of the ball, outscoring its five opponents 179-13. The Bengals feature a balanced rushing attack led by junior Ryan Fitzpatrick and senior Chris Santero, who are both approaching 300 yards and have scored four touchdowns apiece. Senior quarterback Nick Malinowski has also been efficient when called upon, completing 14 of 24 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns. His opportunities have been limited largely because Barnegat has built sizable leads quickly throughout the season, negating the need to throw the ball.

Meanwhile, New Egypt’s offense runs almost entirely through junior quarterback Thomas Marabuto. He has thrown for 758 yards and six touchdowns against just one interception while also leading the team with 405 rushing yards and six touchdowns.

One intriguing matchup to watch could be Barnegat’s highly-touted sophomore defensive back Chancellor Joseph against New Egypt junior wide receiver Joe Snyder. Snyder has emerged as Marabuto’s top target, leading the Warriors with 25 receptions for 330 yards and two touchdowns.
