Since joining the Shore Conference in 2024, New Egypt has compiled a 9-9 record, including a 4-5 campaign last season that culminated in a Central Jersey Group 1 state playoff appearance before a first-round loss to Shore.

The Warriors must replace two highly productive Third Team All-Shore playmakers in running back Eddie Novatkowski, who rushed for 873 yards and 11 touchdowns, and wide receiver Clyde Ferris, who caught 35 passes for 789 yards and eight touchdowns. While replacing that level of production won’t be easy, New Egypt returns 13 starters overall, giving the Warriors enough experience to distribute those responsibilities via a collective effort rather than relying on any one player.

New Egypt moves into Class C South this season, joining a division that includes Freehold Boro and Lakewood along with Group 1 counterparts Keansburg, Keyport, and Point Beach.

Offense

The Warriors return six starters from an offense that averaged 25.3 points per game last season while totaling 957 rushing yards and 1,387 passing yards.

Junior Thomas Marabuto (6-0, 160) returns for his second season as the starting quarterback after throwing for 1,387 yards and 14 touchdowns as a sophomore, earning First Team All-Class D South honors in his debut campaign.

The Warriors will rely on a running-back-by-committee approach to replace Novatkowski’s production. Senior Jonah Chao (5-11, 190), juniors Darren Pomykala (5-10, 160) and Liam Truszkowski (6-1, 180), and sophomore Gavin Ozmina are all expected to share the workload.

Senior Kaiden Grosso (5-11, 165) returns at wide receiver after recording 15 receptions for 113 yards on his way to Second Team All-Class D South honors last season. He’ll be joined by a receiving corps that includes senior Jason Cowan, juniors Jogli Joseph (6-1, 170) and Joe Snyder, and sophomore Michael Ragazzo, giving the Warriors several options in the passing game.

Truszkowski will moonlight at tight end, splitting time while also contributing in the backfield. Senior Paul Kennedy (6-6, 180) also returns after catching five passes for 69 yards and a touchdown last season.

The offensive line is anchored by senior left tackle Nick Johnson (6-0, 190), a First Team All-Class D South selection in 2025, along with senior left guard Tyler Crater (5-11, 180), senior center Sebastian Quintero (5-7, 220), and senior right tackle Jake Milicia (6-2, 230), who was a Second Team All-Class D South pick last year. Junior Owen Reynolds and freshman Jake Roveda (6-2, 240) are competing for the starting job at right guard.

Both the kicking and punting jobs will be decided during training camp.

Defense

The Warriors return seven starters from a defense that allowed 32 points per game last season.

Kennedy, a Second Team All-Class D South pick in 2025, and Milicia will be the defensive ends. Johnson is back at defensive tackle after totaling 24 tackles a year ago, while Michael Rousseau rounds out the interior after finishing with 10 tackles and three sacks last season, as a Second Team All-Class D South selection.

Darren Pomykala returns as a starting outside linebacker after recording 26 tackles and an interception last season. Truszkowski returns at the other outside linebacker spot after recording 41 tackles and earning First Team All-Class D South honors last year. Chao and junior Uriel Vargas will battle for the starting middle linebacker job.

Grosso returns as the starter at one cornerback spot, while Cowan and Snyder will compete for the other. Joseph is slated to start at strong safety, with Marabuto rounding out the secondary at free safety.

The Warriors have come up short against the Garnet Gulls in each of the last two seasons. Changing that narrative will likely be essential if they want to challenge for the Class C South crown.

Newcomer to Watch: Jogli Joseph, Jr., WR/DB

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound athlete is expected to help replace some of the production lost at wide receiver with Ferris’ graduation while taking over at strong safety, where his ability to defend both the run and the pass will be critical to the Warriors’ defense.
