New Foundation: 2026 Freehold Boro Football Preview

Following a season-opening 13-8 win over New Brunswick last year, Freehold Boro lost its next six games, each by at least 19 points. The Colonials snapped the skid with a win over Keyport before closing the season with losses to Asbury Park and Lakewood to finish 2-8.

Despite their struggles, the Colonials appear to have found their quarterback of the future late last season. Then a freshman, Adrian KrKuti began to emerge over the final three games, throwing for more than 100 yards and two touchdowns in each contest. KrKuti’s development gives Freehold Boro a new foundation to build on for the next three seasons as the program looks to regain its footing after four straight losing seasons.

Freehold Boro moves into Class C South this season, where the Colonials will compete against Keansburg, Keyport, Lakewood, New Egypt, and Point Beach.

Offense

The Colonials return three starters from an offense that averaged 16.1 points per game last season, rushed for 1,201 yards and passed for 1,026 yards.

Sophomore Adrian KrKuti (6-5) returns at quarterback after breaking out over the latter half of last season, finishing with 773 passing yards and eight touchdowns. Also a basketball player, KrKuti brings plenty of size and athleticism to the position and will be tasked with distributing the ball to the Colonials’ playmakers on the outside.

The Colonials will feature a three-man rotation at running back with sophomore Joel Judson, junior Josiah Williams, and senior Mike Vogel, giving them a variety of skill sets out of the backfield.

Freehold Boro will have to replace the production of departed wide receiver Damier Lester, a dynamic playmaker who led the team with 43 receptions for 526 yards and two touchdowns while also returning three kicks for touchdowns last season. That void will likely fall to the group as a whole rather than one player. Senior Michael Tracey III is the lone returner in the group. Tracey III caught nine receptions for 89 yards and two touchdowns a year ago.

Senior Tom Montagna, junior Liam Ramirez, sophomores Reed Bennett and Joseph Chapman, and freshman Breyon Bell will round out the Colonials’ receiving corps.

Senior Kellen Kleva and junior Ryan Hoffman will line up at tight end.

The Colonials return two starters on the right side of the offensive line in senior tackle Carson Fusco (5-11, 200) and senior guard Xavier Farina (5-8, 235). Juniors Brandol Nava Marin (6-2, 240) and Mike DeTrizio will step in at left tackle and left guard, respectively, while junior Londell Wright (5-10, 300) takes over at center. Sophomores Jacob Eigen, Brian Tinkov, and John Minucci are also pushing for time across the line.

Ramirez will handle the placekicking duties, while KrKuti will be the punter.

Defense

The Colonials return four starters from a defense that allowed 34.7 points per game last season.

Nava Marin returns at defensive end after recording 19 tackles and a sack last season, with Kleva stepping in at the opposite end spot. Farina and Wright are projected to anchor the interior of the defensive line at tackle.

Fusco returns at inside linebacker after recording 19 tackles last season, while Vogel is projected to start alongside him. Minucci, Eigen, and junior Justin Lieberman are also in the mix for playing time at linebacker.

Tracey III returns at safety after recording 21 tackles and a team-high four fumble recoveries last season. Bennett and Judson will join him at the other two safety spots, while Williams and Montagna are projected to start at cornerback. Hoffman, Chapman, senior Logan Miller, and Bell are also in the mix for playing time in the secondary.

The Colonials suffered a heartbreaking 28-27 loss to the Piners in their 2025 season finale. Both programs enter this season in similar situations, tasked with replacing a significant number of starters from a year ago. Turning the tables on Lakewood later in the season would be a clear sign of progress for the Colonials.

Newcomer to Watch: Joel Judson, So., RB/DB

Judson will step into the committee at running back in the Colonials’ offense while also serving as the last line of defense in the secondary, giving the sophomore two critical responsibilities on both sides of the ball.
