Freehold Twp. 58, Marlboro 50
Sophomore Jake Schultzel scored 13 of his game-high 19 points in the second half and the Patriots (8-7, 4-4) fought past the Mustangs (7-11, 2-6) to claim their fourth straight win.
Senior Nick Cardone also scored 13 points in the second half on the way to 16 for the game, while senior Jordan Dulnuan carried the offense in the first half with 11 of his 13 points before intermission.
Junior Dan Crasto scored 11 of his 17 points in the second half to lead Marlboro and senior Cole Newman hit three of his four three pointers in the first quarter and finished with 14 points. Junior Drew Lubeck also threw in 12 points for the Mustangs.
Ranney 72, Manalapan 70
Sophomore Andrew Mardahaev drilled a go-ahead three-pointer with 12 seconds left and the Panthers (8-7, 4-4) beat the Braves (7-9, 1-6) in a back-and-forth battled that snapped Ranney’s five-game losing streak.
With Ranney trailing, 67-66, sophomore Alex Heyser swung the ball to Mardahaev in the right corner for the go-ahead three, then stole the ensuing inbounds pass. Manalapan committed an intentional foul and junior Shaan Nayar hit one of the two shots to push the Ranney lead to three before going back to the line to make two of two to close out the scoring.
Nayar finished with a team-high 24 points, while Mardahaev scored all seven of his points in the fourth quarter. Heyser poured in 12 and senior MeSean Williams contributed 16 in the win.
Senior Aidan Sosinov and junior Dean Aviles carried the Manalapan scoring by combining for 57 of Manalapan’s 70 points. Sosinov led the way with a game-high 37 points and Aviles poured in 20.
Class A Coastal
No. 5 Red Bank 71, Middletown South 55
Class B North
Shore 80, Asbury Park 46
Sophomore Maddox Paulin led four Shore players in double-figures with 20 points and the Blue Devils (13-4, 5-3) coasted to a win over the Blue Bishops (0-15, 0-7).
Senior Bryce Crowe poured in 14 points, junior Andrew Barham scored 12 and junior Ryan Barham pitched in 10 for Shore, which kept its slim hopes of winning a share of the Class B North division title alive with the win.
Freehold Boro 71, Long Branch 51
Senior Qua’Mir Everett scored a career-high 24 points and the Colonials (13-6, 7-0) marched past the Green Wave (5-12, 4-4) to remain unbeaten in Class B North play and clinch no worse than a share of the division title.
Senior Aidan Hamlin-Woolfolk added 16 points and three steals and classmate Brian Tassey pitched in nine points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for Freehold Boro, which owns a share of a division championship for the first time in 15 years and can clinch the division outright with one win in its final three division games — the next of which is Monday at Ocean.
Quentin Fisher scored 16 points and Joshua Guzman chipped in 12 to lead Long Branch.
Ocean 59, Monmouth 54
Junior Aidan Saint Louis scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half and went 8-for-12 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to help the Spartans (5-12, 5-3) close out the Falcons (3-14, 2-6) on the road.
Freshman Brody Bell added 15 points on five three-pointers and junior Jameson McAllister scored all eight of his points in the first quarter for Ocean.
Class B Coastal
Henry Hudson 43, Raritan 38
Senior Kevin Pharo poured in a career-best 18 points and the Admirals (14-5, 6-2) clawed their way past the Rockets (8-10, 5-3) to stay in the race for the Class B Coastal division title.
Senior Jack Fitzpatrick added 11 points for Henry Hudson, which outscored Raritan, 17-2, in a decisive second quarter. Senior Sean Burnett scored a team-high 15 points to lead Raritan on Senior Night.
Keyport 60, Keansburg 56
Junior Kai Arrington scored a game-high 24 points and senior Nico Dispenza threw in 20 to lead the Red Raiders (11-5, 4-4) to a hard-fought road victory over the rival Titans (6-11, 0-8).
Junior Quadir Taylor led a balanced Keansburg offense with 16 points, while junior A’Son Young added 12. Both junior I’Shon Young and senior Ja’Zier Wynn each added 10 points in the loss.
Middletown North 58, Matawan 48
Junior Braden Marcotte delivered 11 points, eight rebounds and six assists to spark the Lions (14-6, 7-1) to a road win over the Huskies (5-13, 2-6), moving Middletown North a win closer to clinching the Class B Coastal title.
Junior Eddie Lopez led the scoring effort with 17 points and senior Colin Byrne pitched in 14 for Middletown North. Senior Amir Martinez scored a game-high 25 points to lead Matawan.
Class B South
Barnegat 51, Pinelands 37
Senior Cole Toddings led a balanced Barnegat attack with 11 points and the Bengals (12-5, 5-1) pulled away from the Wildcats (10-6, 4-3) after a tight first quarter to pick up their seventh straight win.
Sophomore Gavin Gerckens chipped in 10 points and senior Mason Krey added eight for Barnegat, which outscored Pinelands, 14-5, in the second quarter and 41-23 over the final three after the Wildcats jumped out to an 11-10 lead through one quarter.
Senior Ty Kline scored nine points to lead Pinelands.
Non-Division
Jackson Memorial 80, Lakewood 43
Junior George Boley pumped in 30 points and the Jaguars (8-11) rolled to a win over the Piners (2-12) in Jackson Memorial head coach Randy Holmes’ homecoming to his alma mater, where he served as head coach for 13 seasons.
Junior Yaser Johnson also netted 20 points and junior Jimmy Pappalardo pitched in 11 for Jackson Memorial. Sophomore Isaiah Shade scored 15 points and junior Ronny Cuevas added 13 to lead Lakewood. Abel Martinez also contributed 10 points in the loss.
Non-Conference
No. 10 Southern 67, Pleasantville 42
Sophomore Noah Perna and junior Jake Sliwinski starred again for the Rams (13-4), who overpowered the Greyhounds (7-10) in the first quarter, 19-5, on the way to a one-sided win.
Perna posted 25 points, eight rebounds, four assists and six steals, while Sliwinski backed him up with 19 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Senior Cooper Dempsey also contributed 11 points while knocking down three three-pointers for Southern.
Brick 52, Academy Charter 49
Senior Jayden Johnson scored 14 points and classmate Sean Savannah added 13 to lead the Green Dragons (7-12) in a Senior Night win over the Panthers (7-8).
Both Johnson and Savannah grabbed five rebounds apiece and Johnson dished out three assists. Senior Gavin Maffei added seven points and eight rebounds and classmate Dom Giovine capped the win with a pair of free throws to seal the victory for Brick.
Szemarr McGaskey scored a game-high 18 points to lead Academy Charter.
