Holmdel 53, Middletown South 42
Junior Jack Vallillo scored 10 of his game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter and 15 in the second half as the Hornets (4-3, 1-0) pulled away in the fourth to beat the Eagles (5-3, 0-1).
Middletown South led, 33-26, late in the third quarter before Holmdel scored the final seven points of the quarter to tie the game heading into the fourth. Holmdel then led, 38-37, when the Hornets rattled off an 8-0 run to take control of the game — part of a 15-3 run that gave Holmdel its biggest lead of the night.
Senior C.J. Karis added eight points for Holmdel. Senior Brady Hahn scored 13 of his team-high 20 points in the first half to lead Middletown South, while junior Matt Trimble added 11 points and junior Beckett Oliver pitched in 10 in the loss.
Class B North
Ocean 48, Long Branch 44
Junior Aidan Saint Louis scored a game-high 25 points and the Spartans (1-7, 1-0) conquered the Green Wave (0-7, 0-1) in a game between two teams searching for their first win of the season.
Freshman Brody Bell added nine points for Ocean. Josh Da Cruz led Long Branch with 12 points, while Quentin Fisher chipped in 10 and Josh Guzman nine in the loss.
Shore 41, Monmouth 37
Senior Bryce Crowe accounted for more than half of Shore’s scoring with a game-high 21 points and the Blue Devils (7-0, 1-0) battled past the Falcons (0-7, 0-1) to remain unbeaten.
Class B Coastal
Keyport 56, Henry Hudson 43
Senior Nico Dispenza carried the Keyport offense with 27 points and the Red Raiders (6-1, 1-0) secured a win over the Admirals (4-3, 0-1) on the road.
Senior Andrei Matthews added 12 points and junior Kai Arrington chipped in 10 for Keyport, which turned a 16-10 deficit after one quarter into a 26-23 lead by halftime and added to it with an 18-9 third-quarter run.
Sophomore JoJo Newell led Henry Hudson with 13 points, junior Michael Fitzpatrick contributed 12 and junior Billy Quinn pitched in eight in the loss.
Middletown North 63, Keansburg 27
Senior Colin Byrne pumped in 26 points to go with nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocked shots to lead the Lions (5-4, 1-0) to a win over the Titans (3-3, 0-1).
Sophomore Nate Tyburczy added 10 points and junior Jack Kelly netted nine on three three-pointers for Middletown North, which went up, 41-17, at halftime and put the game away with a 15-0 run during the third quarter.
Raritan 50, Matawan 42
Junior Ian Mullan pumped in a game-high 20 points to go with eight rebounds and the Rockets (3-3, 1-0) scored a road win over the Huskies (2-6, 0-1).
Senior Sean Burnett added seven points and three assists for Raritan, which took control of the game with a 12-3 run to start the second quarter and open up a 22-11 lead that grew to 28-16 by halftime.
Senior Amir Martinez led Matawan with 11 points and six assists, while freshman teammate Cayson Williams chipped in nine points and five boards. Raritan kept 6-foot-7 senior Jayden Elijah (eight points, nine rebounds) in check and junior Colin Reitmann also threw in eight points in the loss.
Non-Division
Point Boro 82, Brick 36
Sophomore Hunter Hynes scored 16 points and five other Point Boro (7-0) players scored at least nine points in another Panthers rout — this one over the Green Dragons (3-5) to extend Point Boro’s season-opening winning streak to seven.
Junior Nick Carmino poured in 15 points, junior Jovin Steinmetz added 13, and seniors Drew Cardia and Nick Kowalewski each contributed 10 for Point Boro. Sophomore Devin Rothman also threw in nine points on three three-pointers.
Sophomore Jamel Pitts matched Hynes with 16 points to lead Brick, while sophomore Ryan Tufaro added 11 in the loss.
