Senior quarterback Carson Abbato connected with senior wideout Chris Raub on touchdown passes of 70 and 60 yards and rushed for a 2-yard touchdown, as the Rams (1-0) defeated the Bulldogs (0-1) in new head coach Matt Abbato’s debut. Junior linebacker Lukas Iliescu returned a fumble 40 yards for a touchdown, while his twin brother Niko Iliescu recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown of his own.
Abbato finished 8-for-19 passing with 202 yards and two touchdowns.

Pinelands 40, Collingswood 6
Junior running back RJ Clark scored three touchdowns, as the Wildcats (1-0) trampled the Panthers (0-1). Clark scored on runs of six, three, and two yards.
Junior running back Lucas Dedru added a three-yard touchdown run. Junior running back Montrell Clark scored on a 6-yard touchdown run.
Senior quarterback JJ Jenkins connected with senior wideout Dom Colosi on an eight-yard touchdown pass.
Junior linebacker Montrel Carter also blocked a punt for a score.
Winslow 55, Neptune 6
The Eagles (1-0) overwhelmed the Scarlet Fliers (0-1) with 45 unanswered points in the final game of Week 0.
Senior quarterback Caleb Brown-Mason found senior wideout Hassan McMillian on a jail screen for a 32-yard touchdown pass that was initially deflected by a defensive lineman for Neptune’s only touchdown.

The Titans (0-1) fell to the Mustangs (0-1) on opening day. Junior running back Taurian Black scored on touchdown runs of six and one yard in the loss. Junior wideout Daizahn Jones hauled in a 40-yard touchdown reception from junior quarterback Mason Rand.
Point Beach 43, South River 7
Junior quarterback Billy Cavanaugh threw three touchdown passes, including two to his older brother, senior Danny Cavanaugh, as the Garnet Gulls (1-0) stifled the Rams (0-1).
Junior running back/linebacker Gage Boyle rushed for a touchdown and racked up a team-leading 15 tackles on defense, while senior wideout Tyler Preston hauled in a touchdown reception.
Senior Danny Neal and junior Tommy Aiosa each rushed for over 100 yards and scored a touchdown. Danny Cavanaugh also recorded an interception on defense.

The Warriors (1-0) held on in the final minutes to hold off the Cardinals (0-1), as senior quarterback Kyle Dow found senior running back Dax Klein for a 23-yard score with 1:36 to play.
Manasquan trailed 13-0 at halftime, but got started quickly in the third quarter, as Dow found junior wideout Connor Lalli for a 32-yard touchdown on a fourth down with seven minutes left. The Warriors went with the trickery to take the lead, as Klein hit Lalli on a double pass.
Westwood answered with a 66-yard touchdown to re-take the lead with 3:30 to play, but the Warriors marched right back down the field and notched the winning score. On the final drive, senior defensive lineman Lucas Kubu recorded two sacks and then a Cardinals Hail Mary attempt was batted down by senior linebacker Luke Barry as time expired.
No. 3 Toms River North 17, Northern Highlands 14
The Mariners (1-0) rallied from a 14-0 halftime deficit to defeat the Highlanders (0-1), with senior kicker Carter Tamaro drilling the game-winning 25-yard field goal with 18 seconds remaining.
Senior quarterback Cole Garrison started the comeback with a goal-line touchdown run early in the third quarter.
Later in the quarter, senior running back Lucas Elias broke free for an 86-yard touchdown run to tie the game.
Nondivisional
Toms River East 42, Manchester 0
Junior quarterback Jojo Totten accounted for four touchdowns — two passing and two rushing — to help propel the Raiders (1-0) over the Hawks (0-1).
Totten found junior wideout Tyler Mendez and senior wideout Austin Sanok for scores, and senior quarterback Tyler Kline threw a touchdown to junior Dylan Rutzler.
Sanok also returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, and Toms River East’s the defense added a safety in the victory.
Marlboro 28, Colts Neck 7
The Mustangs (1-0) controlled the game and picked up a workmanlike victory over the Cougars (0-1).
Senior quarterback Nick Dimino ran for two scores — each from seven yards — and threw for another, a long post route on the run to freshman wideout Miles Block for 54 yards.
Senior running back Shaqur Richardson added a rushing touchdown of his own, starting the fourth quarter with an 18-yard scamper to put Marlboro up 21-0 and help close out the victory.
Colts Neck got on the board in the final minute, marching down the field before a three-yard score from sophomore running back Trevor Baum with 30 seconds left.
Toms River South 48, Freehold Boro 8
The Indians (1-0) took a 28-0 lead after one quarter, and 48-0 at halftime, rolling to a big victory over the Colonials (0-1).
Senior running back Kavon Metellus ran for two scores in the outburst, from two and three yards, and Toms River South recorded two defensive touchdowns in the frame. Junior Zahir Armour took an interception back to the house, and senior linebacker Jeff Hare caught a lateral and returned it for a score.
Junior defensive back Hamza Hollingshead gave the Indians their third defensive touchdown of the night with a 65-yard pick-six, and sophomore Denzel Abban added a 22-yard run in the second quarter.
Sophomore quarterback Adrian KrKuti scored Freehold Boro’s lone touchdown with a one-yard score in the fourth quarter.
No. 5 Brick Memorial 28, No. 11 Wall 3
The Mustangs (1-0) defeated the Crimson Knights (0-1) behind a dominant performance on both sides of the ball.
Senior Kai Smith gave Wall an early 3-0 lead with a 28-yard field goal before Brick Memorial scored 28 unanswered points.
Senior quarterback Tyler Pierce ran for a 30-yard touchdown and threw TD passes of 3 yards to senior running back Colin Schoellkopf and 5 yards to senior wideout and twin brother Casey Pierce. Senior wideout Shawn Fowler added a 5-yard touchdown run to cap a 93-yard drive.

Cherokee 42, Middletown South 28
The Chiefs (1-0) outlasted the Eagles (0-1) in a wild fourth quarter in which the two teams combined for 42 points.
Cherokee turned three Middletown South first-quarter turnovers into 14 points, but Eagles senior quarterback Jack Schneider found senior running back Justin Rosato for a much-needed fourth-and-goal with 26 seconds left in the first half to cut the deficit in half heading into the locker room.
Senior linebacker Anthony Bennett pounced on a fumble in the end zone, eventually sending the game to the fourth quarter tied 14-14, with the ball.
Middletown South struck again on another score from Rosato on the ground, just a minute into the fourth, to take the lead for the first time, but the Chiefs turned up the heat with their run game. They ripped off touchdown runs of 55, 65, and 20 yards to flip the game back in their favor, up 35-21. But after the third score, Eagles senior wideout Owen Maguire returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to cut the lead to one score with four minutes to play.
Cherokee iced the game on the next possession with another 25-yard touchdown run with under 90 seconds to play.
River Dell 27, No. 10 Matawan 7
The Golden Hawks (1-0) used the quick-strike big plays early to take a lead and never looked back on the road against the Huskies (0-1).
River Dell scored a touchdown in each of the first two quarters, with senior wideout Nick Cordts catching both. Junior quarterback Brooks Esler found Cordts wide open on a play-action pass for 56 yards, before junior running back Iain Rossig faked a toss play and connected with Cordts for a 36-yard score in the first minute of the second quarter.
Esler added another touchdown with his legs on a nine-yard keeper midway through the third quarter to make it 20-0. Matawan junior running back Sean Euell put the Huskies on the board with a two-yard run in the final minutes of the third quarter, but a 54-yard return on the ensuing kickoff to set the Golden Hawks up well to tack on another.
Minutes later, Esler found Rossig for an acrobatic eight-yard touchdown catch to put the finishing touches on the win.
Barnegat 26, Absegami 7
The Bengals (1-0) defeated the Braves (0-1) behind big plays in all three phases.
Junior running back Ryan Fitzpatrick returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, senior defensive lineman Josh Kozak recovered a fumble in the end zone, sophomore wideout Chance Joseph scored on a 15-yard reverse and senior quarterback Nick Malinowski threw a 65-yard touchdown pass.
Hammonton 47, Long Branch 0
New Egypt 23, Buena 22
Junior quarterback Thomas Marabuto found senior wideout Jason Cowan for a 60-yard touchdown with 10 seconds remaining to pull the Warriors (1-0) within one of the Chiefs (0-1). Marabuto then connected with senior wideout Kaiden Grosso on the two-point conversion to give the Warriors the win.
Marabuto finished with three touchdown passes. His other two scores went to junior tight end Liam Truszkowski for 15 yards and junior wideout Joe Snyder for 17 yards.
No. 7 Manalapan 41, Hillsborough 25
Senior running back Nick Palmieri scored on touchdown runs of 25, 4, and 3 yards, in addition to a two-point conversion, as the Braves (1-0) defeated the Raiders (0-1).
Junior defensive back PJ Pape returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown, in addition to rushing for a 39-yard touchdown. Senior running back Ethan Fogelstrom added a 49-yard touchdown.
Raritan 41, Madison 0
The Rockets (1-0) ran away with a big victory over the Dodgers (0-1), aided by a swarming defensive performance with five turnovers.
Senior safety Brennan Spengler picked off two passes and recorded seven tackles, junior cornerback Zahir Jones hauled in another interception, along with a sack and five tackles of his own, and sophomore linebacker Mark Jewell recovered two fumbles while recording eight tackles.
On the offensive end, senior running back Eric Berg found the end zone twice and recorded over 100 all-purpose yards. Raritan also got two rushing touchdowns apiece from senior quarterback Parker Needham and junior wideout Lou Zweidinger.
No. 6 Holmdel 45, Hightstown 14
Sophomore quarterback Tommy Fletcher tossed three touchdown passes, as the Hornets (1-0) rolled over the Rams (0-1) on opening night.
Fletcher threw three touchdown passes, connecting with junior wideout Anthony Serini for a 45-yard score, sophomore wideout Charlie Murphy for a 32-yard touchdown and senior wideout Michael Todisco for a 54-yard score.
Todisco added a 1-yard rushing touchdown, while sophomore running back Tyler Carri scored on an 11-yard run.
Senior linebacker Joey Berardi contributed on defense with a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown, and junior kicker Sean Diaz connected on a 22-yard field goal.
Monmouth 21, Spotswood 7
Junior quarterback Ryan Corwin accounted for three touchdowns, rushing for two scores and connecting with junior tight end Donovan Hicks for another, as the Falcons (1-0) defeated the Chargers (0-1).

St. John Vianney 29, Cedar Creek 28 (OT)
New Jersey’s first game of the season took a bit longer than expected, as the Lancers (1-0) held off the Pirates (0-1) in overtime after taking a 14-point lead in the second half.
Junior quarterback Anthony Petracca made his St. John Vianney debut, replacing fellow junior Will Calcagno, who left the game due to injury in the second half. Calcagno threw two touchdown passes to junior wide receiver Noah Fitzpatrick in the second quarter, both on deep passes down the field. He also found sophomore Jaheim Worthy for a 21-yard score on a fourth down in the third quarter to take a 21-7 lead.
Cedar Creek responded with two straight touchdowns in the final minutes of the third and opening minutes of the fourth quarters to tie it up. Both teams got close in opposing territory later in the fourth, but could not score to send the game to overtime deadlocked at 21.
The Pirates scored on their first possession, but St. John Vianney responded with a tough drive to score themselves. Fitzpatrick hauled in his third touchdown of the game from a yard out on a fade route through two defenders, and head coach Greg Penta opted to go for the two-point conversion and the win. Petracca took it himself on a keeper, and pushed through the defensive pressure to cross the goal line and give the Lancers the one-point victory.
Junior defensive backs Kaji Brown and Ted Domashinski each recorded interceptions in the victory.
Battle in the Boro
At Rowan University
No. 2 Donovan Catholic 52, Kingsway 7
The Griffins (1-0) put together a complete effort to open the season, dominating the defending sectional champion Dragons (0-1).
Senior quarterback Kahden Davis connected with senior wideout Aidan Kelly on an 88-yard touchdown pass and found sophomore wideout TJ Hunter for a 26-yard touchdown. Davis also added a 29-yard rushing touchdown.
Senior running back Alex Staten scored on touchdown runs of 62 and seven yards, while freshman running back Carmelo Foendoe added a two-yard touchdown run. Senior running back Brody MacNivan also found the end zone on a nine-yard run.
Senior kicker Sal Reynoso added a 21-yard field goal in addition to finishing 7-for-7 on extra points.
DePaul Catholic 35, No. 1 Red Bank Catholic 28
The Spartans (1-0) scored a game-winning touchdown 1:37 to play and got one final defensive stop to defeat the Caseys (0-1) in an instant classic in Glassboro.
Sophomore quarterback Rahmir Rivera threw and ran for a touchdown each, sophomore running back Gabe Kemp ran for one of his own, and senior linebacker TJ Walsh took an interception for a touchdown to complete Red Bank Catholic’s scoring.
DePaul struck first with two consecutive scores, taking a 13-0 lead with nine minutes left in the first half. But the Caseys responded well to close the half, starting with a long 54-yard pass from Rivera on the run to junior receiver Ethan Kennedy. They executed the four-minute drill to perfection after forcing a turnover on downs near the red zone, with Rivera sprinting up the middle for a 21-yard score to give Red Bank Catholic a 14-13 lead into the locker room.
Junior defensive lineman Asher Cummins tipped a screen pass into the air, and Walsh plucked it for a 15-yard score, giving the Caseys 21 consecutive points and a 21-13 lead. The Spartans responded with two straight touchdowns of their own, before Kemp finished a powerful drive with his score to give Red Bank Catholic a 28-27 lead with four minutes to play.
The Spartans methodically marched right down the field, and junior quarterback Frank Morano found running back Aiden Davis for a four-yard score, and the two-point try put them ahead by seven. DePaul sacked Rivera and forced a fumble in his own territory in the final seconds to seal the victory.
Nondivisional
Freehold Township 38, Central 21
Senior quarterback Dakota Lasater combined to register four touchdowns to help lead the Patriots (1-0) to a high-scoring win over the Golden Eagles (0-1).
Freehold Township burst out of the gates with two touchdowns in the opening five minutes, both scored by senior running back Dennis Quattrache III. He caught a pass from Lasater to start, and punched it in from two yards out, helped by a Patriots interception.
Central responded with two straight scores of its own, a one-yard run by junior quarterback Isaiah Troiano, then a 33-yard strike from senior CJ Yates — who moved from wideout to quarterback after Troiano left with an injury — to senior receiver Mason Smith.
But Lasater ran for another score and threw two more in the second and third quarters, setting up Freehold Township with a commanding 35-14 lead after three quarters. The Golden Eagles put a bit of a dent into the deficit with a 12-yard run by junior running back Gus Copes, but it was too little, too late, as the Patriots added a late field goal to put the finishing touches on the victory.
Jackson 21, Ocean 0
The Jaguars (1-0) put together a shutdown performance to defeat the Spartans (0-1) in a hard-nosed, grind-it-out battle.
Both teams couldn’t get across the goal line in the opening 36 minutes, with a scoreless three quarters, aided by two fourth-down stops by Jackson.
The Jaguars opened up the scoring on the first play of the fourth quarter, with sophomore quarterback Ryan Yurgel scoring from a yard out. On the ensuing drive, fellow sophomore linebacker Sha’Zir Taylor intercepted a pass and took it back 40 yards for Jackson’s second score in 90 seconds of fourth-quarter action. Senior running back Farrin Blake punched in a score of his own with 3:40 left to put the game away, punctuating a standout defensive effort to start the season.
Jackson held Ocean to just five first downs and 115 total yards, adding the two fourth-down stops in the red zone, while recovering two fumbles with three sacks.
Red Bank 14, Shore 7
Senior wideout Kaden Jackson scored on a 92-yard touchdown run, and senior quarterback Brett Laude found senior running back Joe Henry on a 30-yard touchdown pass, as the Bucs (1-0) held off the Blue Devils (0-1) on opening night.
Sophomore linebacker Declan Sanborn recovered a fumble on a mishandled reverse to stop Shore on 4th and goal late in the fourth quarter. Shore had one final chance but turned the ball over on downs on an incomplete pass.
Senior quarterback Logan Clark connected with senior wideout Mikael Fleming on a 29-yard touchdown pass for Shore.
Nonconference
Newton 27, Asbury Park 0
The Braves (1-0) used a dominant second quarter to pull away from the Blue Bishops (0-1) in a game that was called at halftime due to inclement weather.
Junior running back Reid Corino opened up the scoring with a 24-yard touchdown scamper up the middle 55 seconds into the second quarter. Fellow junior Evan Cotter added a score of his own from 54 yards out to give Newton a double-digit lead with under three minutes left in the half.
The defense forced a three-and-out in less than a minute on the ensuing drive, and Cotter sprinted down the sideline for his second long touchdown of the afternoon, this time from 45 yards out, with 90 seconds left in the half to push the lead to 19-0.
The Braves forced another quick change of possession, recovering a fumbled squib kick on the ensuing kickoff. They marched down the field in a hurry, resulting in Corino’s second touchdown of the game with 12 seconds left in the half, this time in the receiving game. That would extend the lead to 27-0, standing as the final score.
Asbury Park junior defensive back Divine Washington recorded an interception in the loss.
Brick 34, Allentown 7
The Redbirds (0-1) struck first, but the Dragons (1-0) struck every single time after to run away with a big win to open the season.
Down 7-0, senior linebacker Cian Foy picked off a pass in zone coverage and took it back 27 yards for a score.
In the second quarter, junior running back Jaylen Johnson scored from 24 yards out on a double handoff to put Brick ahead 13-7, a lead the Dragons would not relinquish. Junior wideout Tyshawn Corbett hauled in a long pass in the back of the end zone in the final 30 seconds of the first half to build the lead to double digits.
Brick came out of the locker room strong as well. Junior running back Kole Perrine burst up the middle for a 56-yard score in the opening minute of the third quarter, and the defense continued to shut down Allentown’s offense the rest of the way. Senior quarterback Weston Baumert added the finishing touches with an 11-yard score on a keeper with under four minutes to play.
Lacey 12, Lawrence 0
The Lions (1-0) controlled the game on defense, forcing turnovers and keeping the Cardinals (0-1) off the scoreboard.
Senior quarterback Joe Geiger opened it all up with a sneak on the first drive, putting Lacey ahead immediately.
The defense helped create another opportunity, as senior linebacker Jake Sturman scooped up a Lawrence fumble. The Lions put it away with a red-zone score on the ground from sophomore running back Taven Santonasso.
No. 4 Rumson-Fair Haven 28, Tottenville (NY) 27
The Bulldogs (1-0) opened the season with plenty of fireworks, with three of their four touchdowns scored from at least 50 yards out, to fend off the Pirates (0-1).
Senior running back Ryder Izzo opened up the scoring with a 59-yard scamper early in the second quarter. Then, it was junior quarterback Brady Williams’ turn. He made all kinds of plays with his arm, launching three touchdown passes. The first went to senior wideout Cole Spoonire up the seam for a 66-yard score in the final two minutes of the first half.
Tottenville quickly marched down the field to score with 45 seconds left, but a missed extra point kept the Bulldogs ahead 14-13 going into the locker room.
The defenses reigned supreme for the first ten minutes of the third quarter, but Williams made another high-level play, launching a 58-yard pass across his body to junior receiver Bodie Matchett down the sideline. The Pirates responded once again with a lengthy touchdown drive and two-point conversion to tie it up early in the fourth quarter. But with eight minutes left, Williams and Matchett connected for the second time, this time in the red zone, as the signal-caller fired a laser in the back of the end zone while falling away to avoid the pressure.
Tottenville still wouldn’t go away, though. Aided by a 60-yard return on the ensuing kickoff, the Pirates worked a quick touchdown drive, but for the second time, the point-after was no good, and that made all the difference. Williams and Izzo worked solid plays on the ground to salt away the clock and end the night victorious.
No. 12 Point Boro 24, Sterling 10
A 66-yard return on the opening kickoff set up the Panthers (1-0) well, taking down the Silver Knights (0-1) in a workmanlike effort.
They scored four plays later, as senior quarterback Jake Clayton opened up the scoring with a four-yard keeper, one of his three touchdowns on the night.
The Panthers added another score on another draw from Clayton to push the lead to 14-0 in the opening six minutes. Senior kicker Jack Sullivan made it 17-0 in the second quarter, as the defense put up a strong performance in the trenches to keep Sterling off schedule.
The Silver Knights did add a field goal minutes later to keep the game at two scores, and later added a touchdown with two minutes to play to keep the game close. But Point Boro recovered the ensuing onside kick, and Clayton fired a touchdown pass to freshman Grayson Williams to ice the game.
