Shore Conference Girls Soccer Top 10, Sept. 23
For the third straight week the Shore Conference has their third different team in the number one spot. Wall’s reign at number one was short lived, being upset the very same day they were moved into the top spot. Class A North has four teams in the Top 10 and two teams sitting on the bubble waiting to get into the rankings. The Shore Conference has three teams left that are undefeated, but they all have tough match-ups awaiting them this week.
Shore Sports Insider Girls Soccer Week 3 Rankings
1. Howell (6-0) Last Week: 3 – Howell is one of three teams to remain undefeated after week three of the soccer season. Howell started the week defeating Freehold Boro to win their second SCT Group game. The Rebels followed that with one of their most impressive wins of the season. Trailing 2-0 to division rival Manalapan, Howell’s Makenzie Memmolo scored three second half goals to give them the victory. Howell ended the week with a hard fought victory over No. 10 St. John Vianney 2-1. Howell travels to No. 6 Red Bank Catholic on Tuesday and hosts Jackson Memorial on Thursday.
2. Middletown South (5-1) Last Week: 4 – Middletown South earned their second win in the SCT Group play against Jackson Liberty to start the week. The Eagles ended the week defeating North Hunterdon 1-0 in a non-conference game. Middletown South travels to Manasquan on Tuesday and hosts No. 6 Red Bank Catholic on Thursday in Class A North action. Saturday they host Bridgewater-Raritan in a non-conference game.
3. Lacey (8-0) Last Week: 5 – Lacey continues their great start to the season, bringing their win total to eight games and one of the three remaining undefeated teams. The Lions opened the week with a victory over Red Bank Regional SCT Group play and defeated Donovan Catholic in Class B South divisional action. Lacey ended the week with a 6-2 victory over Brick Memorial. Senior Natalie McGovern scored a hat trick in that game and has scored over 10 goals in each of her four seasons. Lacey travels to Manchester on Tuesday in a Class B South game and to No. 8 Central on Thursday. The Lions end the week against Pinelands on Friday in SCT Group play.
4. Freehold Township (3-4) Last Week: Not Ranked – After dropping their first four games of the season and falling out of the rankings for the first time in years, the Patriots have won three straight games including a 2-0 victory over then No. 2 Red Bank Catholic in a Class A North game. Freehold Township also defeated Brick Township and Manchester in SCT Group games. Tuesday the Patriots travel to Rumson-Fair Haven in a non-divisional game. Freehold Township hosts Trinity Hall in a Class A North game. Both teams need the victory to stay in contention with Howell. Freehold Township ends the week hosting Hunterdon Central in a non-conference game.
5. Wall (5-1) Last Week: 1 – Similar to last season, when a new team was moved to the number one ranking, they lost the following week. Wall was upset by Manchester to start the week in a SCT Group game. The Knights rebounded with a division victory over No. 10 St. John Vianney to remain undefeated in Class A Central. Wall has two division games this week as they travel to Red Bank Regional on Tuesday and hosts Marlboro on Thursday.
6. Red Bank Catholic (4-2) Last week 2 – RBC won their two SCT Group games last week, defeating Donovan Catholic and Marlboro. The Caseys did fall to Freehold Township 2-0 in a Class A North match-up. Junior Paige Foye picked up her second hat trick of the season to bring her goal total to 11 on the season. RBC has a chance to shake up the rankings and Class A North this week. They host No. 1 Howell on Tuesday and travel to No. 2 Middletown South on Thursday.
7. Point Boro (6-0) Last Week: 6 – Point Boro is the last of the three undefeated teams left in the Shore Conference, picking up three more wins last week. The Panthers opened the week defeating Holmdel 2-0 in a SCT Group game. They also defeated cross town rival Point Beach in a SCT Group game later in the week. Point Boro earned their third Class A South victory by defeating Toms River North 3-0. Senior Abby Hannemann increased her assist total to 9 on the season and has 3 goals on the season. Point Boro can clinch Class A South this week as they travel to Toms River South on Tuesday and Jackson Memorial on Saturday.
8. Central (3-1-1) Last Week: Not Ranked – Central has won three straight games since falling to No. 7 Point Boro. Last week they defeated Matawan and New Egypt in SCT Group play to earn six points. The Golden Eagles defeated division rival Toms River South 2-0 to remain in the hunt for the Class A South title. Central travels to Jackson Memorial on Tuesday in a divisional match-up and hosts No. 3 Lacey on Thursday.
9. Toms River East (6-1) Last Week: 8 – East was handed their first defeat of the season Saturday against Jackson Memorial. They also conceded their first goal late in the second half in that game. They started the week with a 2-0 victory over Colts Neck in SCT Group play and defeated New Egypt in Class B South action. Tuesday the Raiders host Donovan Catholic in division play and travel to Monmouth on Friday in SCT Group action. Saturday they travel across town to face rival Toms River South .
10. St. John Vianney (4-2) Last Week: 10 – Majority of the team if you lose two times in a week you will fall out of the rankings, but the Lancers lost to last week’s number one team and this week’s number one team. SJV opened the week defeating Shore in a SCT Group game. The Lancers followed that by falling to division rival Wall 3-2 and Howell 2-1. SJV will look to get back on track against Ocean on the road in a Class A Central match-up on Tuesday and against Neptune on Thursday in a SCT Group game.
