Shore Conference Football Players of the Week

 

We’re back with the Week 8 NuVision Resolve Shore Conference Football Player of the Week poll where we post nominees for the Shore Conference offensive, defensive and special teams Players of the Week and give readers the chance to choose who should take home the award based on their performance in the previous week’s games.

Shore Sports Insider will also select its own offensive, defensive and special teams Players of the Week for each of the Shore Conference’s seven divisions.

Read through each player’s accomplishments for the week and cast your votes. This week’s poll will close on Wednesday at 10 p.m.

Update: The polls are closed and the winners have been finalized. Congratulations to Holmdel’s Matt Iulo, Point Beach’s Gage Boyle and Toms River South’s Chase Ford and JJ Geremia on winning Player of the Week and to all the nominees for their standout performances in Week 8.

OFFENSE

Jordan Angstreich, Sr., WR, Rumson-Fair Haven

-Caught three passes for 120 yards and three touchdowns when the No. 2 Bulldogs clinched the outright Class A North division title with a 49-7 win over Colts Neck.

 

Liam Brosnan, Sr., RB, Point Beach

-Rushed for a career-high 217 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries and ran for a 2-pt conversion to lead the Garnet Gulls to a 28-14 win over New Egypt that clinched a spot in the NJSIAA playoffs.

 

Logan Burbank, Jr., WR, Middletown South

-Caught five passes for 120 yards, including an 84-yard touchdown reception, in the Eagles’ 29-14 loss to No. 4 Red Bank Catholic.

 

Mason Ciccariello, Jr., QB, Jackson Liberty

-Completed 12 of 15 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown and ran for 50 yards and a touchdown on seven carries to lead the Lions to a 27-26 win over Pinelands.

 

Jake Clayton, So., QB, Point Boro

-Ran for 65 yards and two touchdowns on just four carries and completed his only pass attempt for a 30-yard touchdown when the No. 3 Panthers defeated No. 10 Howell, 38-6.

 

Joey Davis, So., RB, Lacey

-Rushed for a career-high 194 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries to help lead the Lions past Toms River East, 28-24, for their first win of the season.

 

Tyler Gustafson, Jr., RB, Monmouth

-Rushed for a career-high 142 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries in a loss to Manchester.

 

Jake Henehan, Sr., RB, Toms River South

-Rushed for 146 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries and caught a touchdown pass when the Indians knocked off previously undefeated and 11th-ranked Central, 33-26, to clinch a share of the Class B South division title.

 

Matt Iulo, Sr., RB, Holmdel

-Ran for the go-ahead 17-yard touchdown with under a minute left in regulation when the No. 7 Hornets defeated Manalapan, 27-21, to clinch a share of the Class C South division title. He finished with two rushing touchdowns and three receptions for 52 yards.

 

Christian LaFonte, Sr., RB, Marlboro

-Powered the Mustangs’ offense with 184 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 29 carries in a 21-0 win over Long Branch.

 

Jason Lajara, Jr., QB, Brick Memorial

-Completed 9 of 13 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown and ran for 62 yards and two touchdowns in the No. 5 Mustangs’ 37-0 win over Jackson Memorial.

 

Aidan Lunn, Sr., QB, Manchester

-Completed 4 of 4 passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns and took his only carry 86 yards to set up a touchdown when the Hawks defeated Monmouth, 42-12, to win the Class C South championship for their first outright division title in program history.

 

Andrei Matthews, Sr., WR, Keyport

-Caught six passes for 97 yards and went 2-for-2 passing for 61 yards and two touchdowns when the Red Raiders retained the Bayshore Bell by defeating Keansburg, 31-7, for thier first win of the season.

 

Quinn Niesz, Sr., QB, Red Bank

-Completed 7 of 12 passes for 109 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a touchdown when the Bucs defeated Matawan, 28-14, to lock up a spot in the NJSIAA playoffs.

 

Royalty Riley, Sr., WR, Central

-Caught eight passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-26 loss to Toms River South.

 

Owen Robson, Jr., QB, Middletown North

-Completed 9 of 14 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns when the No. 6 Lions defeated Freehold Township, 45-19, to clinch the outright Class B North division title and enter the playoffs undefeated.

 

Myquan Rush-Esdaile, Sr., RB, Barnegat

-Ran for 164 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries and caught an 8-yard touchdown pass in the Bengals’ 35-22 win over Lakewood.

 

Justin Silva, Sr., RB, Southern

-Ran for a career-high 177 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries and caught a touchdown pass when the Rams defeated Brick, 41-12, and secured a share of the Class B South division title.

 

Abdul Turay, So., RB, St. John Vianney

-Ran for 185 yard and two touchdowns on 30 carries in a 28-14 win over Raritan. Also recorded 3 tackles for loss and 9 total tackles on defense.

 

T.J. Valerio, Sr., QB, Toms River North

-Led the No. 1 Toms River North offense in a 31-0 win over No. 9 Donovan Catholic by going 8 of 9 passing for 203 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for 39 yards and a touchdown to help the Mariners clinch the Class A South championship.

 

Boomer Volek, Sr., RB, Ocean

-Ran for a career-high 119 yards and a touchdown and intercepted a pass on defense when the Spartans snapped a 6-game losing streak with a 43-0 shutout win over Freehold.

 

 

 

DEFENSE

Jack Baker, So., LB, Toms River North

-Recorded a career-high 11 tackles with 3 tackles for loss and forced a fumble when the No. 1 Mariners clinched the Class A South division title with a 31-0 victory over No. 9 Donovan Catholic.

 

Gage Boyle, Fr., LB, Point Beach

-Recorded a team-high 12 tackles and created 6 negative plays with 1 sack and 5 tackles for loss when the Garnet Gulls defeated New Egypt, 28-14, to clinch a state playoff berth.

 

Dante Campagna, Sr., DB, St. John Vianney

-Intercepted two passes in the No. 12 Lancers’ 28-14 win over Raritan. He also caught four passes for 63 yards and a touchdown on offense.

 

Lou DiBiase, Sr., DL, Point Boro

-Made 12 tackles with a sack and a tackle for loss to help the No. 3 Panthers to a 38-6 win over. No. 10 Howell.

 

Shawn Fowler, So., DB, Brick Memorial

-Delivered his second pick-6 of the season to help No. 5 Brick Memorial to a 37-0 win over Jackson Memorial.

 

Jamie Gutridge, Sr., LB, Red Bank Catholic

-Posted 10 tackles, 1 sacks and 2 tackles for loss in the No. 4 Caseys’ 29-14 win over Middletown South.

 

Austin Kiernan, Sr., LB, Rumson-Fair Haven

-Tied a career-high with three sacks and recorded 12 tackles to help the No. 2 Bulldogs defeat Colts Neck, 49-7, and clinch the outright Class A North division championship.

 

Slav Kostenko, Sr., DL, Marlboro

-Totaled a career-high 10 tackles and a career-best three tackles for loss when the Mustangs shut out Long Branch, 21-0.

 

Jah’Mir Lane-Bailey, Jr., LB, Red Bank

-Posted 6 tackles with 1.5 sacks, 2 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery as part of a huge day where he also caught four passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns and caught a 2-point conversion pass in a 28-14 win over Matawan that locked up an NJSIAA playoff spot.

 

Kavon Metellus, So., DB, Toms River South

-Intercepted two passes in the second half to help the Indians knock off previously undefeated and 11th-ranked Central, 33-26, to clinch a share of the Class B South division championship.

 

Frankie Serini, Sr., DB, Holmdel

-Intercepted a pass that set up Holmdel’s go-ahead touchdown drive and also recovered a fumble to help the No. 7 Hornets win 27-21 over Manalapan to clinch a share of the Class C North division title.

 

Cole Toddings, Sr., LB, Barnegat

-Made 20 tackles with three tackles for loss and two pressures in the Bengals’ 35-22 win over Lakewood.

 

 

 

SPECIAL TEAMS

Blake Caruso, Jr., K, Red Bank Catholic

-Connected on two field goals with a long of 37 yards and went 3-for-3 on extra points in the No. 4 Caseys’ 29-14 win over Middletown South.

 

Chase Ford, Sr., Punter & JJ Geremia, Jr., WR – Toms River South

-Ford and Geremia combined to execute a fake punt for a 65-yard touchdown when the Indians stunned 10th-ranked and previously undefeated Central, 33-26, to clinch a share of the Class B South division title.

 

Seamus Montegue, Jr., K, Middletown North

-Kicked a 26-yard field goal and went 6-for-6 on extra points when the No. 6 Lions defeated Freehold Township, 45-19, to clinch the outright Class B North division title and enter the playoffs undefeated.

 

Yianni Papanikolas, Sr., K, Toms River North

-Kicked a 31-yard field goal and went 4-for-4 on extra points in the No. 1 Mariners’ 31-0 win over No. 9 Donovan Catholic that clinched the Class A South division title.

 

Jack Sullivan, So., K, Point Boro

-Kicked a 26-yard field goal and went 5-for-5 on extra points in the No. 3 Panthers’ 38-6 win over No. 10 Howell.
