2026 Shore Sports Insider Boys Lacrosse MVP: Joseph Whitehouse, Rumson-Fair Haven
Most players dream of leaving a lasting mark on their program.
Few accomplish it the way Joseph Whitehouse did at Rumson-Fair Haven.
From the moment he stepped onto the field as a freshman, Whitehouse established himself as a player capable of changing games. Four years later, the senior midfielder leaves RFH as one of the most accomplished players in program history, helping lead the Bulldogs to three Shore Conference Tournament championships, two South Jersey Group 1 titles, and a Group 1 state championship.
After serving as the driving force behind the Shore Conference’s top team and one of New Jersey’s premier programs, Whitehouse has been named the 2026 Shore Sports Insider Most Valuable Player as the Shore Conference’s top player.
“I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to coach Joseph for the last four years,” Rumson-Fair Haven head coach Marc Moreau said. “There simply are not enough superlatives to describe what he has meant to our program. From the moment he stepped onto the field as a freshman, he elevated the standard of excellence for everyone around him.”
Whitehouse’s production matched his reputation throughout his senior season. The Washington & Lee University commit finished with 48 goals, 24 assists, and 72 points while serving as the centerpiece of an RFH team that spent the latter half of the season ranked No. 1 in the Shore Conference.
While those offensive numbers were impressive, they only told part of the story.
As a midfielder, Whitehouse impacted every phase of the game. He could score from the outside, initiate offense from behind the cage, facilitate for teammates, and create transition opportunities. His versatility made him one of the most difficult players in the conference to defend and a major reason for the Bulldogs’ success.
“Joseph’s growth as a midfielder has been remarkable,” Moreau said. “Early on, he relied heavily on his athleticism and natural instincts, but over the years he developed into a complete two-way midfielder. He became more efficient as a dodger, a more polished shooter, and a stronger playmaker who could control the tempo of a game.”

Whitehouse’s individual success translated directly into team accomplishments.
Rumson-Fair Haven captured a share of the American Division title, won its second straight Shore Conference Tournament championship, claimed the South Jersey Group 1 championship, and advanced to the Group 1 state final.
Throughout that run, Whitehouse consistently delivered in the biggest moments.
His most explosive performance came in a 17-10 victory over Westfield when he erupted for six goals and three assists, accounting for nine points in one of the finest individual performances by a Shore Conference player all season.
He also played a key role in one of the Bulldogs’ most meaningful victories of the year.
After falling to Glen Ridge in the 2025 South Jersey Group 1 sectional championship game, Rumson-Fair Haven earned an opportunity for redemption this spring. Whitehouse scored three goals in a dominant 19-4 victory over Glen Ridge, helping the Bulldogs avenge the previous season’s loss and return to the sectional final.

While Whitehouse’s statistics and highlight-reel performances made him one of the Shore’s most dangerous offensive players, Moreau believes his greatest contributions came through the example he set every day.
“Joseph led by example every day,” Moreau said. “He was the first to put in extra work and the first to hold himself accountable. His teammates respected him because he never asked anyone to do something he wasn’t willing to do himself. He helped establish a culture that played a major role in our success.”
That leadership was evident throughout his career.
As a freshman, Whitehouse immediately displayed a level of maturity uncommon for a young player. Moreau recalled recognizing early on that he was coaching someone special.
“It became apparent very early in his freshman year that Joseph was different,” Moreau said. “While his athletic ability and skill stood out immediately, what really separated him was his lacrosse IQ and competitive drive. He understood the game at a level well beyond his years and consistently made plays in critical moments.”
By the time his senior season arrived, Whitehouse had evolved into the complete package.
“By his senior season, there wasn’t an aspect of the game that he couldn’t impact at a high level,” Moreau said.
His career ended on a heartbreaking note when Whitehouse suffered an injury against Haddonfield in the Bulldogs’ sectional final victory, but those who know him best have little doubt about what comes next.
“The injury against Haddonfield was heartbreaking because no player invests more into the game than Joseph,” Moreau said. “That being said, if there is anyone equipped to handle adversity and come back stronger, it’s him. His resilience, discipline, and determination are second to none.”
As Whitehouse prepares for the next chapter of his career at Washington & Lee, he leaves behind a legacy defined by far more than goals and assists.
He leaves as a champion, a leader, and the cornerstone of one of the most successful eras in Rumson-Fair Haven lacrosse history. After helping the Bulldogs capture another Shore Conference Tournament title, a sectional championship, and a return trip to the state final, Whitehouse has cemented his place among the program’s all-time greats. His high school career may be complete, but the impact he made on Rumson-Fair Haven will be felt for years to come.
