2026 Shore Sports Insider Boys Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year: Luke Lydon, Rumson-Fair Haven
Most attackmen are known for either scoring goals or setting them up.
Luke Lydon made a habit of doing both.
Whether he was finishing opportunities himself or creating them for teammates, the Rumson-Fair Haven senior served as the engine behind one of the Shore Conference’s most explosive offenses. His rare combination of scoring ability, vision, and playmaking helped power the Bulldogs to another championship-filled season and established him as one of the state’s premier offensive players.
After leading one of New Jersey’s most dangerous offenses, Lydon has been named the Shore Sports Insider Offensive Player of the Year.
“Luke has had a tremendous impact on our program over the last four years,” Rumson-Fair Haven head coach Marc Moreau said. “As a four-year varsity player, he was one of the most productive offensive players we have ever had. This season he became the program’s all-time leading scorer, which speaks to both his talent and consistency throughout his career.”

Lydon’s numbers were impressive from every angle.
The Boston University commit finished with 56 goals, 49 assists, and 105 points, leading an RFH offense that helped the Bulldogs finish the season ranked No. 1 in the Shore Conference.
What made those numbers even more remarkable was how they were accumulated.
Some of the Shore Conference’s top scorers thrive primarily as finishers. Others make their biggest impact as distributors. Lydon excelled in both roles, making him one of the most difficult players in New Jersey to defend.
His ability to adapt was evident throughout the season.
On four separate occasions, Lydon scored five goals in a game, demonstrating his ability to take over offensively and finish opportunities around the cage. Yet one of his most memorable performances came in a completely different fashion.
In a game against Wall, Lydon did not score a goal. Instead, he recorded eight assists, repeatedly setting up teammates and showcasing the unselfish style that made Rumson-Fair Haven’s offense so dangerous.
The performance perfectly illustrated what separated him from many of the state’s elite scorers.
“Luke entered our program as a talented scorer, but over time he developed into a much more complete attackman,” Moreau said. “Defenses focused heavily on him throughout his career, forcing him to become more versatile and make better decisions with the ball. His ability to read defenses, create for teammates, and operate within our offense improved tremendously.”
By his senior season, Lydon had evolved from a gifted scorer into the quarterback of the Bulldogs’ offense.
“By his senior year, he wasn’t just finishing plays, he was dictating the game offensively and finding multiple ways to impact the outcome,” Moreau said.
Lydon’s individual success translated directly into team accomplishments.
Rumson-Fair Haven captured a share of the American Division title, won its second consecutive Shore Conference Tournament championship, claimed the South Jersey Group 1 title, and advanced to the Group 1 state final.

His success wasn’t limited to the lacrosse field, either.
Lydon helped guide Rumson-Fair Haven’s basketball team to a sectional championship and a state final appearance during the winter before helping lead the lacrosse program on another championship run in the spring.
“What Luke accomplished this year as a two-sport athlete was incredibly impressive,” Moreau said. “Competing at a high level in both basketball and lacrosse requires tremendous discipline, time management, and commitment. There are very few athletes who can help lead two programs to sectional championships and state final appearances in the same school year.”

Long before he became the program’s all-time leading scorer, Moreau recognized that Lydon possessed the qualities of a special player.
“We knew early on that Luke had the potential to be a special offensive player,” Moreau said. “Even as a freshman, he had a natural ability to score the ball and create opportunities around the cage. He possessed an advanced feel for the game and a confidence that allowed him to compete against older, more experienced players.”
His next chapter will begin at Boston University, where Moreau believes his game is perfectly suited for success at the collegiate level.
“Boston University is getting a proven offensive playmaker who has consistently performed at a high level throughout his high school career,” Moreau said. “Luke has a tremendous scoring instinct, a strong understanding of the game, and the confidence to make plays in pressure situations.”
Lydon leaves Rumson-Fair Haven as the program’s all-time leading scorer and one of the most accomplished players in school history. If his career trajectory is any indication, that record may be only the first milestone on a much longer journey.
