SJV QB Zach LaBarca Commits to Southern Connecticut State

St. John Vianney senior quarterback Zach LaBarca, a two-time, Shore Sports Insider All-Shore selection, announced on Monday that he has verbally committed to Southern Connecticut State University. 

LaBarca announced his commitment on social media on Jan. 19, sharing that he will join a Division II program that competes in the Northeast-10 Conference and includes several other former Shore stars.

He can make his commitment binding on National Signing Day on Feb. 4.

The senior was a second-team All-Shore selection this fall after finishing with 1,532 yards and 15 touchdowns passing along with 510 yards rushing and four touchdowns for more than 2,000 total yards.

He also was a second-team All-Shore pick as a junior after registering 1,903 yards and 15 touchdowns passing and running for 750 yards and 5 touchdowns for a team that reached the Non-Public B semifinals. LaBarca began his career at Donovan Catholic, where he saw time as a sophomore before transferring to St. John Vianney ahead of his junior season.

LaBarca heads to a Southern Connecticut State team that also includes former Raritan star running back Kieran Falzon and a trio of former Middletown North standouts, defensive end Peter Dempsey, offensive lineman Anthony Lubrano and tight end Brody Tooker.
