SCT Girls Basketball Opening Round Scoreboard Tuesday, Feb. 11

Shore Conference Tournament

First Round

(16) Colts Neck 47, (17) Freehold Boro 33

Leading by two points at halftime, Colts Neck was able to open the game up in the third quarter by outscoring Freehold Boro 16-5 on their way to a first round win in the SCT. Senior Katie Dichter and Freshman Emily Donahue both scored 12 points to lead the Cougars. Freshman Julianna Jasina added 10 points for Colts Neck. Senior Sayuri Penaranda posted a double-double with a game-high 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for Freehold Boro. Colts Neck will travel to top seeded Manasquan on Thursday in the second round.

(20) Holmdel 51,  (13) Brick Township 44

Holmdel built a 16-9 lead in the first quarter and was able to hold on and lead the rest of the way to advance into the second round of the SCT. Senior Mackenzie Teevan posted a double-double with 24 points and 16 rebounds for Holmdel. Teevan, who reached the 1,000 point milestone tonight, was also a force on the defensive side of the floor with 5 blocks. Freshman Casey Zammit added 12 points for the Hornets. Senior Riley Nausedas scored a game-high 18 points for the Dragons and Freshman Kendall Fredricksen added 11 points. Holmdel will travel to play No. 4 Red Bank Catholic in the second round on Thursday.

(15) Neptune 44, (18) Lacey 29

Leading by one after the first quarter, Neptune was able to build a 8 point lead going into halftime and added to that in the third quarter to win their opening round match-up against Lacey. Sophomore Lana Ellington scored a game-high 11 points and had 4 steals for Neptune and Majiah Quarles added 10 points. Junior Ava Schmidt scored a team-high 10 points for Lacey. Neptune will travel to No. 2 St. John Vianney on Thursday in the second round.

(14) Shore 44, (19) Middletown North 24

Shore built a 21-16 lead at halftime and closed the game out with a 14-4 fourth quarter to advance in the SCT. Sophomore Grace Ascolese knocked down five 3-pointers and scored a career-high 16 points for Shore Regional. Junior Ava Coyle drained three 3-pointers to add 14 points and had 7 steals for the Blue Devils. Karleigh Aber scored a team-high 12 points for Middletown North. Shore will travel to No. 3 St. Rose on Thursday in the second round.

(12) Barnegat 67, (21) Freehold Township 63

In a game of runs, Barnegat was able to respond to Freeholds 15-2 run to end the first half by going on a 29-13 run in the second half and build an eight point lead. Freehold was able to tie the game at 55 and both teams went back and forth exchanging leads until Barnegat broke a 60-60 tie.

Senior Zemirah Enalls scored five straight points for Barnegat to give them a 65-60 lead, Enalls finished with a complete stat-line, 33 points, 18 rebounds, 3 blocks and 5 assists. Enalls grabbed 8 offensive rebounds and was able to get to the free-throw line 12 times in the game. Senior Riley Fitzpatrick added 17 points and had 5 assists for Barnegat. Fitzpatrick played an important role with her ball handling and made several key baskets in the second half.

Senior Sophie Tonino, who drained a 3-pointer with 16 seconds left to make it 65-63, scored 22 points to lead Freehold Township. Madison Sciarrino scored 15 of her 18 points in the first half for the Patriots.

 

Non-Divisional

Long Branch 42, Lakewood 10

Long Branch raced to a 14-0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter and never looked back against Lakewood. Senior Taniylah Brown scored a game-high 16 points and Senior Leomary Diaz-Merino added 13 points while Sophomore Layla Bland recorded 7 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 steals in the win for the Green Wave.

Manchester 49, Toms River South 36

Manchester outscored TRS 14-6 in both the first and second quarter on their way to their 14th win of the season. Freshman Jesse Sarana scored a game-high 20 points and Madeline Nolan added 19 points for Manchester. Sophomore Linsey Cribbin scored a team-high 15 points for TRS.

Jackson Memorial 58, Middletown South 40

Jackson Memorial opened with a 15-7 1st quarter lead and extended the lead in the 2nd half to turn back Middletown South. Sophomore Cali Brown scored a game-high 24 points including six made 3-pointers as Junior Isabella Finer added 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 blocks in the win for the Jaguars.

Toms River East 39, Central 37

Trailing by three points after the first quarter, the Raiders outscored Central 13-4 in the second quarter and held on to give Coach Kevin Cohen his 300th win of his career. Senior Grace Crowley scored a team-high 11 points and Adrianna Cruz added 9 points for TRE. Vita Kelyman scored a game-high 16 points for Central.

Ocean 28, Pinelands 20

After a slow first half, Ocean outscored Pinelands 15-7 to win their 2nd game of the season. Freshman Emma Burke scored a game-high 15 points for Ocean.
