Group Stage

Group F

Lacey 2, Middletown North 1

Senior Aidan Fitzgerald converted penalty kicks two minutes apart early in the second half and the Lions (6-4) held on to beat the Middletown North (4-5) to gain the inside track for first place in Group F.

Fitzgerald broke a scoreless tie with his first penalty kick in the 48th minute and in the 50th minute, another foul in the box led to a second Fitzgerald penalty in as many minutes.

Junior Cam Del Grosso scored in the 68th minute to pull Middletown North within a goal.

 

Group I

No. 1 Colts Neck 7, Jackson Liberty 0

Sophomore Sean Moore scored twice in the first seven minutes and senior Kyle Moore put up a hat trick with an assist as the Cougars (10-0-1) took care of the Lions (2-8-1).

Sophomore Pedro Navroski scored in the 12th minute to extend Colts Neck’s lead to 3-0 and after Kyle Moore scored three unanswered goals, junior C.J. Collins capped the scoring in the 71st.

 

Regular Season

Class A North

No. 2 CBA 3, No. 5 Howell 1

Senior Phil Bodenski recorded his first career hat trick and the Colts (8-3, 4-1) took over first place in the Class A North standings and won their sixth straight by upending the Rebels (7-2, 3-2).

Bodenski drilled a direct kick through a Howell Wall and into the goal from 23 yards out in the fourth minute. Howell responded a little more than two minutes later, when senior John Fiorillo headed in a corner kick by classmate Tyler Borenstein.

CBA regained the lead in the 23rd, when Bodenski emerged from a scrum in front of the goal following a corner kick and whipped a shot into the right corner of the goal.

Bodenski added an insurance goal in the 72nd with a penalty kick that followed a takedown of senior Brandon McDonough inside the box.

Rumson-Fair Haven 1, Marlboro 1

Rumson senior Luke D’Angelo and Marlboro senior Jake Langella traded goals in the second half and the Bulldogs (5-4-1, 3-1-1) and Mustangs (7-3-1, 2-2-1) battled to a draw.

 

Class A Central

No. 3 Manalapan 6, Wall 0

Junior Dan Altman scored two goals and senior Dylan Cassidy and junior Eduardo Russo later added a goal and two assists apiece as the Braves (10-1-1, 5-0-1) exploded for five second-half goals to take out the Crimson Knights (6-5-1, 1-3-1).

Altman scored off a set piece in the 33rd minute to open the scoring and Wall lost starting goalkeeper Tom Ekberg to an injury in the final minute of the first half and did not have him for the remainder of the game.

Manalapan took advantage in the second half, starting with Altman’s second goal — a 25-yard strike in the 47th minute. Cassidy then struck for his first goal off a pass from junior Eduardo Russo, who then scored off a pass from Cassidy at the midway point of the second half to go up, 4-0. Russo then set up a goal by sophomore Gavin Holcomb in the 71st and Cassidy found junior Ethan Lustig for the finish in the 74th.

Class A South

No. 7 Toms River East 2, Jackson Memorial 1

Senior Tommy Renkin scored two goals in the second half and the Raiders (7-2, 3-2) held on to beat the Jaguars (5-6-2, 0-3-2). Renkin got Toms River East on the board with a goal in the 45th minute off a pass from senior Billy Laudien and scored the game-winner in the 63rd off an assist from junior Aiden Reis.

 

Class B North

Matawan 3, Freehold Boro 1

Sean Sobocinski assisted goals by Ergi Gjino and Gavin Heyward and the Huskies (1-9, 1-4) beat the Colonials (3-7-1, 0-5-1) for their first win of the 2024 season.

Nico Skeete also scored off a pass from Evan Coco for Matawan. Roninho Ramirez Vazquez scored the lone Freehold Boro goal.

No. 9 Ocean 2, Neptune 0

Senior Jacob Gomez and sophomore Connor Shaw took care of the goal-scoring and the Spartans (8-2, 3-1) shut down the Scarlet Fliers (5-4-1, 1-2-1).

No. 8 St. John Vianney 2, Raritan 1

Senior Anthony Marano scored his first goal of the season after beginning the year out of action due to injury and it proved to be the game-winner that gave the Lancers (7-1, 4-0) a come-from-behind win over the Rockets (6-4, 3-2).

Senior Kyle DiMarco tied the game in the 56th minute off a pass from classmate Shayan Katiraei, who advanced the ball up the left side of the field before crossing it to DiMarco.

SJV grabbed the lead four minutes later, when junior Mason Boles also worked up the left flank to set up a cross to Marano, who found a spot on the back post to finish the game-winner. Marano was making his second appearance of the season after missing St. John Vianney’s first six games.

Senior Eion Davis gave Raritan a first-half lead with a goal off an assist from junior Owen Brackett.

 

Class B Central

Red Bank Catholic 3, Keyport 1

Senior Andrew Torregrossa got the scoring started for Red Bank Catholic, followed by goals from senior Luke Meyers and Matt Asfendis that carried the Caseys (2-7-1, 1-2-1) to a win over the Red Raiders (1-8, 1-4).

Red Bank 2, Monmouth 1

Junior Alex Salvo scored the game-winning goal in the 75th as the Bucs (7-5, 5-0) battled past the Falcons (5-4-1, 3-1-1) to move within one win of the Class B Central division championship.

Monmouth tied the game in the 45th minute on a goal by junior Lua Mendonca-Braga off a feed from classmate Luca Tvrdik. Five minutes later, however, Tanner Simpson was issued his second yellow card of the game, leaving Monmouth a man down for the final 30 minutes of the match. Salvo capitalized with five minutes left, scoring off a pass from sophomore Brian Garcia.

Red Bank jumped on top with a penalty kick by senior Gavin McTighe in the 20th minute.

Non-Division

No. 10 Toms River South 1, Brick Memorial 1

Senior Mason Muolo gave Brick Memorial a 1-0 lead with goal just past the midway point of the first half, but Toms River South struck back five minutes later with a goal by senior Anthony Johnson as the Mustangs (7-2-2) and Indians (7-1-2) settled on a draw.

Manchester 2, Ranney 0

Juniors Josh Rosado and Brayden Kurak each scored a goal and the Hawks (5-6) topped the Panthers (8-3-1) to snap Ranney’s eight-game unbeaten streak. Senior Gabe Occhipinti assisted Rosado’s goal and senior Cody McLeod set up Kurak’s score.

 

Non-Conference

Southern 3, Shawnee 1

Senior Aidan Donnelly pumped in a hat trick and the Rams (6-3-1) went on the road to take down the unbeaten Renegades (8-1-1) — the No. 13 team in the state, according to NJ Advance Media.
