Opening Round

Ray Cervino Bracket (RWJ Arena)

(3) Point Boro 49, (6) Middletown North 22 

The Panthers jumped out to a 11-2 1st quarter lead and did not look back to advance into the second round of the WOBM Christmas Classic. Senior Emily Marinelli scored a game-high 12 points for Point Boro and Gabby Mellett scored 8 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had 3 blocks in the victory. Junior Danielle Gonzalez scored a team-high 7 points for Middletown North.  Point Boro will play the No. 2 seed Rumson-Fair Haven on Saturday at 7 p.m.

(2) Rumson-Fair Haven 55, (7) Central Regional 30

Trailing by one point entering the 2nd quarter, Rumson outscored Central 21-8 to take a 28-16 lead at halftime and continued to build on that lead in the second half. Junior Erin Reid led all scorers with 22 points and sophomore Grace Smith added 15 points for the Bulldogs. Junior Jaelynn Witte had a team-high 9 points for Central. Rumson will play the No. 3 seed Point Boro on Saturday at 7 p.m.

(5) Brick Township 42, (4) Middletown South 35

Brick Township was able to hang on and win after seeing their 15 point lead early in the second half disappear. Middletown South was able the game to within four points in the 4th quarter, but the Dragons responded and built the lead back to 7 points and advance into the semifinal round in the Ray Cervino Bracket of the WOBM Christmas Classic. Freshman Ariana Wissen had a game-high 21 points and went 4 for 4 at the foul line to help seal the game down the stretch. Senior Riley Nausedas finished with 9 points for the Dragons and was able to hold Caitlin Whyte to just three points, which was the first basket of the game. Senior Amanada MacGregor and junior Ava Loucopoulos both scored 11 points to lead Middletown South. Brick Township will face the top seed Red Bank Regional in the semifinals on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.

(1) Red Bank Regional 44, (8) Manchester 25 

Red Bank held Manchester to six first half points on their way to a first round win in the Ray Cervino Bracket of the WOBM Christmas Classic. Three players scored double-digits for the Bucs led by senior Caroline Polloway with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks. Junior Synai Blychanton scored 12 points and had 5 assists and junior Zoe Gulley knocked down four 3-pointers to finish with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Manchester was led by Savannah Jackson and Jesse Sarana who both finished with 8 points. Red Bank Regional will face the No. 5 seed Brick Township in the semifinal round on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.

 

Kathy Snyder Bracket (TR North Gym)

 

(14) Toms River East 49,  (11) Lacey 41

Toms River East built a 40-27 lead going into the 4th quarter and held on to win their first round game in the WOBM Christmas Classic. Freshman Brooke Gathman scored a game-high 14 points and Grace Crowley added 13 points for the Raiders.  Senior Reece Paget scored a team-high 13 points for Lacey. Toms River East will face crosstown rivals Toms River North in the second round of the Kathy Snyder bracket on Saturday at 4 p.m.

(10) Toms River North 51, (15) Point Beach 40 

The Mariners outscored Point Beach 19-9 in the 2nd quarter to build a 23-15 lead and held on to advance into the second round of the Kathy Snyder Bracket. Junior Cara Sarluca continues her strong start to the season, scoring a team-high 15 points and Angelina DeCesare added 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for TRN. Senior Erin Frauenheim scored a game-high 18 points for Point Beach. TRN will play the NO. 15 seed Toms River East in the second round at 4 p.m. om Saturday.

(12) Donovan Catholic 34, (13) Toms River South 33

Donovan was able to hold onto a 16-10 lead at halftime to beat TRS 34-33 and advance into the semifinal round of the Kathy Snyder Bracket in the WOBM Christmas Classic. Anais Freidman scored a team-high 11 points and Maddie Koehler and Sarah Franks both scored 9 points for the Griffins. Sophomore Linsey Cribbin scored a team-high 11 points for the Indians. Donovan will face the No. 9 seed Wall on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in the semifinal round.

(9) Wall 46, (16) Brick Memorial 25 

Wall built a 20-13 lead at halftime and outscored Brick Memorial 13-4 in the 4th quarter to put the game out of reach and advance into the semifinal round in the Kathy Snyder Bracket of the WOBM Christmas Classic. Sophomore Erin McBarron scored a career-high 14 points to lead Wall and Marisa Amite posted a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Liana Lapena knocked down three 3-pointers and finished with 14 points to lead the Mustangs. Wall will play the No. 12 seed Donovan Catholic in the semifinal round of the Kathy Snyder Bracket on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

 

 

 

Holiday Hoopfest

Location: John F. Kennedy High School, Paterson, NJ

Gill St. Bernard 61, No. 2 St. John Vianney 44 

St. John Vianney led Gill St. Bernard 11-10 after 1 quarter,  but a sloppy 2nd quarter found them trailing 34-17 at the half which proved to be an insurmountable deficit. Gill St. Bernard Senior Gandy Malou Mamel, a 6’6 UConn commit, led with a game-high 20 points and 6 rebounds while Senior Sidney Quinn, a Navy commit, scored 16 points and added 7 rebounds. St. John Vianney’s Taylor Sofilkanich scored a team-high 10 points for the Lancers.
