USA Softball NJ Shore Conference Softball Scoreboard Tuesday, May 6

 

Ocean County Tournament Championship

(3) Jackson Memorial 1, (5) Pinelands 0 (9 innings)

Ocean County was treated to a pitching duel in the Ocean County Tournament Championship game. Emily Hersch struck out eight batters in a shutout victory over Pinelands. Over nine innings, Hersch only gave up five hits and two walks. Hersch also had two assists, one coming with runners  on 2nd and 3rd with two outs in the top of the 8th inning. Dominique Lopez, who was hitless throughout the game, hit a triple to start the bottom of the 9th with a fly ball to left-center field. The very next at-bat Lopez scored when Victoria Marconi hit a ground ball to pitcher Eleona Meola and when she made throw the ball to first base to make the out, Lopez took off for home and the throw was not on target.

Meola was very efficient on the mound for Pinelands. She threw 83 pitchers in just over 8 innings of work.

 

Class C North

St. Rose 8, Manalapan 6

Senior pitcher Emily Torresdal struck out 11 batters and went 3 for 4 at the plate with a double and an RBI to help lead the Purple Roses (7-5, 4-4) past the Braves (9-7, 8-1). Sophomore Mikayla Herbert hit a single with 2 RBIs. Junior Gianna Rivers hit an RBI single. Junior Gianna Decina hit a double, walked, and scored 2 runs in the win for the Purple Roses.

Ocean 17, Rumson-Fair Haven 2 (4 innings)

Senior Jillian Scotto went 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, a walk, 6 RBIs, and 4 runs as the Spartans (8-8, 6-4) defeated the Bulldogs (5-9, 4-4) via mercy rule. Sophomore Ryleigh Cerco crushed 2 home runs totaling 4 RBIs. Freshman pitcher Colleen Zdan struck out 6 batters and allowed just 1 hit, 3 walks, and 1 HB. Zdan also went 2 for 3 at the plate with a double, a walk, and 2 RBIs. Senior Cassandra Foley was 2 for 3 with a walk and 2 RBIs in the win for the Spartans.

 

Coastal

Long Branch at Neptune, 3:45 p.m.

Trinity Hall at Keyport, 4 p.m.

 

Nondivisional

New Egypt 12, Point Beach 0 (5 innings)

Leading 1-0 after the 2nd inning, New Egypt scored 11 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to improve to 12-6 on the season. Jackie Bowen struck out four batters and only gave up three hits in the shutout. Megan Miller hit her 8th home run of the season and drove in two runs. Grace Seraphin went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored and Samantha Potts went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for New Egypt.

 

No. 4 Colts Neck 11, Howell 9 (8 Innings)

Tied 7-7 going into the 8th inning, Colts Neck scored four runs in the bottom of the 8th to respond to Howell’s two runs in the top of the inning to improve to 7-7 on the season. Jillian Heyser went 4-for 5 with two doubles and three runs scored and Gabriella Saveriano went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs for Colts Neck.

Madisyn Zito hit a double and drove in four runs and Katelyn Murphy drove three runs in for Howell.

 

Lacey 2, Monmouth 0

Lacey scored two runs in the bottom of the 2nd and held on to improve to 8-7 on the season. Julia Kovacs struck out 6 batters in the shutout victory  and drove in both runs for Lacey.

Samantha Mahoney struck out seven batters for Lacey and Emma Riccardi went 2-for-3 at the plate.

 

No. 5 Middletown North 1, Manasquan 0

Madilyn Boyce struck out the first 12 batters and finished with 18 in the game to reach the 1,000 strikeout milestone for Middletown North. Julia Frontera drove in Adriana Lisotto in the bottom of the 6th inning to score the games lone run for the Lions.

Julia Carson struck out 7 batters for Manasquan.

 

Manchester at Toms River North, 6 p.m.

 

No. 3 Red Bank Catholic 14, Red Bank 0

Senior pitcher Lily Hagan struck out 9 batters and allowed just 3 hits and a walk in 4.2 innings as the Caseys (14-3) rolled past the Bucs (7-10). Hagan surpassed the 500 strikeout milestone in the Senior Night win. Senior CF Sophia Lasater smashed 2 home runs totaling 5 RBIs. Junior Jayden Kane went 3 for 3 with a triple and 3 RBIs.

 

Toms River South 8, Central 3

Toms River South jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd and added three more insurance runs later in the game to improve to 8-10 on the season. Addison Tupper went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs and Kassidy Colangelo went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for TRS.

Jaelyn Witte went 1-for-2 with a double and RBI for Central.
