Week 2 Dick’s House of Sport Football Player of the Week Poll

Welcome to the Week 2 edition of the Shore Conference Football Player of the Week Poll, presented by Dick’s House of Sport.

Each week, Shore Sports Insider will highlight some of the top individual performances from around the Shore Conference and give readers the chance to decide who deserves to be named Shore Conference Football Player of the Week.

Nominees are selected based on statistics and information submitted by coaches or designated team representatives to Shore Sports Insider or entered on the distribution list by noon on Sunday. Only players from teams that won that week are eligible for consideration, and a maximum of one player per team can be nominated. Players who have previously won the Shore Conference Football Player of the Week Poll are not eligible to win the award again during the season.

Check out this week’s nominees and their standout performances below, then cast your vote for the player you think should take home the award. The winner will receive a $50 gift card to Dick’s House of Sport.

Voting for the Week 2 poll closes Tuesday at noon. Users are limited to one vote per hour. The winner will be announced Wednesday.

Carson Abbato, Sr., QB, Southern

Abbato put on an aerial display, completing 16 of 20 passes for 308 yards and four touchdowns to propel the Rams to a 42-14 victory over Jackson.

Trevor Baum, So., RB, Colts Neck

Baum carried the ball 19 times for 120 yards and found the end zone twice in the Cougars’ 32-0 shutout of Long Branch.

Gage Boyle, Jr., RB, Point Beach

Boyle fueled the Garnet Gulls’ ground game with 179 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries in a 28-14 victory over New Egypt.

Montrell Carter, Jr., RB/LB, Pinelands

Carter earns another nomination after recording a game-high 14 tackles and four sacks on defense while also turning his lone carry into a 9-yard touchdown.

Mikey Clayton, Sr., WR, Keansburg

Clayton hauled in four passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns, scoring from 30 and 20 yards out to help lead the Titans to a 30-12 victory over Freehold Boro.

Jermaine Finch, Sr., RB, Keyport

Finch accounted for three rushing touchdowns to help power the Red Raiders to a 40-14 victory over Lakewood.

Cole Garrison, Sr., QB, Toms River North

Garrison carried the load for the Mariners, rushing 23 times for 135 yards and both of his team’s touchdowns in a 14-7 victory over Point Boro.

Ryder Izzo, Sr., RB/LB, Rumson-Fair Haven

Izzo powered his way to 169 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries while also contributing five tackles and an interception on defense in the Bulldogs’ 40-28 victory over Holmdel.

Dax Klein, Sr., RB/DB, Manasquan

Klein powered the Warriors’ ground attack with 113 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries in a 28-0 shutout of Matawan.

Kavon Metellus, RB/DB, Toms River South

Metellus grinded out 55 yards and two touchdowns on the ground while leading the Indians’ defense with nine tackles, including a tackle for loss, and a forced fumble in a 23-13 win over Central.

Hudson Muhlbach, Sr., RB/LB, Marlboro

Muhlbach contributed on both sides of the ball in the Mustangs’ 24-13 victory over Neptune, rushing for 102 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries while recording five tackles, a sack and two forced fumbles on defense.

Justin Rosato, Sr., RB/DB, Middletown South

Rosato powered the Eagles’ offense with 195 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries while also making five tackles in a 42-14 rout of Freehold Township.

Chris Santero, Sr., RB/DB, Barnegat

Santero made the most of his nine carries, piling up 116 yards and two touchdowns while adding six tackles on defense in the Bengals’ 48-0 shutout of Asbury Park.

Luke Scaturro, Sr., LB, Red Bank Catholic

Scaturro anchored the Caseys’ defensive effort with a team-high 10 tackles, including two tackles for loss and a sack, as Red Bank Catholic held St. John Vianney in check in a 44-7 victory.

Danny Sigler, Sr., WR/DB, Middletown North

Sigler made an impact all over the field in the Lions’ 34-20 win over Shore, catching four passes for 167 yards and three touchdowns, adding a 30-yard rushing score and intercepting a pass on defense.

Jake Sturman, Sr., LB, Lacey

Sturman wreaked havoc in the backfield with four TFL’s and a team-high eight tackles, helping the Lions shut out Toms River East, 10-0.

Brandon Thompson, Jr., RB, Monmouth

Thompson found the end zone twice on the ground as the Falcons rolled past Manchester, 44-6, to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Christos Tsandiotis, Sr., LB, Wall

Tsandiotis spearheaded the Crimson Knights’ defense with a team-high 11 tackles, including two tackles for loss and a sack, while also forcing a fumble in a 15-12 comeback win over Manalapan.

Torrance Turner, So., LB, Donovan Catholic

Turner came up with two key sacks on edge blitzes, helping the Griffins stifle Brick Memorial in a 14-7 defensive battle.

Aidan Zacharcyzk, Jr., K/P, Ocean

Zacharzyzk delivered a standout performance on special teams, drilling a career-long 46-yard field goal and connecting from 36 yards while going 4-for-4 on extra points and pinning his lone punt inside the 20 in the Spartans’ 34-0 win over Red Bank.

Louis Zweidinger, Jr., SB, Raritan

Zweidinger made his presence felt in multiple ways, catching five passes for 75 yards and a touchdown while adding 36 yards on five carries in the Rockets’ 27-12 win over Howell.
