Class A North

No. 2 Rumson-Fair Haven 26, No. 3 Red Bank Catholic 11

Senior quarterback Owen O’Toole threw for 256 yards and a touchdown, senior wideout Jordan Angstreich caught a career-high eight passes for 204 yards and a touchdown and junior running back Kellen Murray ran for 184 yards and three touchdowns as the Bulldogs (6-0, 4-0) rallied from an early 11-point deficit to beat the rival Caseys (3-3, 3-1) and take over sole possession of first place in the division.

RBC led 11-0 in the first quarter on a 22-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Frankie Williams to freshman wide receiver Jason Berecsky and a 45-yard field goal by junior Blake Caruso. Rumson answered on a 79-yard touchdown pass from O’Toole to Angstreich and then took the lead for good when Murray ran for a 3-yard touchdown for a 13-11 lead with 6:42 left in the first half.

Rumson added an 8-yard touchdown run by Murray with 2:14 left in the first half and a 4-yard touchdown run by Murray with 26 seconds left in the first half.

Rumson outgained RBC 453-174 and held the Caseys to just 3 yards rushing on 24 attempts. The Bulldogs’ offense gained 23 first downs.

 

Class A South

No. 1 Toms River North 35, No. 10 Howell 0

 

Class B North

Freehold Township 32, Freehold 20

Senior quarterback Nick Cardone completed 18 of 31 passes for a career-high 331 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for two touchdowns as the Patriots (5-2, 4-0) held off the Colonials (2-5, 0-4) to claim “The Duke” and set up a first-place showdown with Middletown North in two weeks.

Cardone tossed a 30-yard touchdown to sophomore wideout Jake Schultzel and a 21-yard touchdown to junior receiver Nicholas Schicchi. Senior running back Justin Tamai added 84 yards rushing a touchdown run. Senior wide receiver Noah Cancela caught eight passes for 170 yards to become the Patriots’ single-season record holder with 52 receptions.

Junior linebacker Johnathan Kokotis intercepted two passes on defense.

 

 

Class B North

No. 6 Middletown North 33, Red Bank 7

Junior quarterback Owen Robson tossed three touchdown passes to junior wide receiver Jack Viola and the Lions intercepted five passes on defense to storm past the Bucs and remain tied for first place in the division.

Viola had over 100 receiving yards and three touchdowns to tie the school record and senior running back Shane Volante ran for a touchdown. Senior defensive back T.J. Rey had two interceptions, including a pick-6, and junior defensive back Ryan Clark snared three interceptions, which is the most by any Shore Conference player in a single game this season.

Red Bank (3-3, 1-3) scored on a blocked field goal return for a touchdown late in the first half.

Middletown North (6-0, 4-0) has a bye in Week 7 and will face Freehold Township in Week 8 in the Class B North division championship game. The Patriots (5-2, 4-0) defeated Freehold Boro, 32-20, to also keep pace.

 

Matawan 7, Ocean 0

 

Class C North

No. 7 Holmdel 56, Raritan 31

Junior quarterback Jack Cannon had another monster game by completing 17 of 18 passes for 352 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for 168 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries as the Hornets (5-1, 3-1) won a high-scoring tilt with the Rockets (2-4, 1-3) to claim the Battle of the Border trophy and keep themselves alive for the division title.

His 352 passing yards are believed to be a program single-game record.

Wall’s win over Manalapan created a three-way tie between Holmdel, Wall and Manalapan for first place in Class C North.

Cannon threw a 76-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Carmine Aliperti, a 70-yard touchdown pass to Frankie Serini and a 35-yard touchdown pass to Trey Critchley. On the ground, Cannon had touchdown runs of 80, 6 and 11 yards. Senior running back Matt Iulo ran for 106 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 13 carries, Serini caught six passes for 133 yards and a touchdown and Critchley caught four passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. Serini and Matt Scheinman had interceptions on defense.

Holmdel can clinch at least a share of the division title with a win over Manalapan in Week 8. The final standings won’t be decided until Wall and Manasquan play on Thanksgiving Day.

 

No. 8 Wall 7, Manalapan 6

Senior running back Mason Adam ran for a 6-yard touchdown early in the second quarter and senior Tony Credle blocked an extra point with 7:29 left as the Crimson Knights (5-1, 3-1) won a slugfest over the Braves (3-4, 3-1) to force a 3-way tie atop the division standings.

Manalapan scored midway through the fourth quarter when a 41-yard run by senior running back Ahsere Woolfolk set up sophomore Nicky Palmieri for a 10-yard run. Credle then blocked the extra point to keep Wall ahead.

Wall’s defense held Manalapan to 129 yards of offense, including 65 yards rushing. Senior linebacker Justin Davis had multiple tackles for loss and junior linebacker Dylan Cohen had two sacks behind a defensive line that clogged running lanes all game.

Manalapan’s defense was also outstanding in limiting Wall to 121 yards of offense and just 79 yards rushing.

Wall, Manalapan and Holmdel are now tied for first place with 3-1 division records. Wall finishes its division schedule on Thanksgiving vs. Manasquan while Manalapan and Holmdel will meet on Oct. 25.

Shore 27, Neptune 21

The Blue Devils (6-0, 5-0) surrendered their first points of the season to a division opponent but were able to rally from a 14-0 first-quarter deficit to defeat the Scarlet Fliers (3-3, 3-2) and clinch at least a share of the division title.

No. 4 Point Boro 27, No. 5 Brick Memorial 24

Sophomore slotback Nick Spanola ran for 147 yards and three touchdowns on just eight carries and sophomore Jack Sullivan connected on two field goals as the Panthers (5-2, 4-1) built a 17-point lead in the third quarter and held off a furious charge from the Mustangs (5-2, 3-2) for a gritty win in a matchup of top-5 teams in the Shore.

Spanola had touchdown runs of 7 and 15 yards in the first half when Point Boro held a 16-3 halftime lead. He also recovered two fumbles in the first half, one of which led to his own touchdown run and another that set up Sullivan for a 28-yard field goal as time expired in the first half. Point Boro scored on a safety early in the third quarter before Spanola ripped off a 70-yard touchdown run for a 24-3 Point Boro lead.

Brick Memorial answered on a 13-yard shovel pass touchdown from junior quarterback Jason Lajara to junior Nazeer Whittaker to make it 24-10. Point Boro extended its lead to 27-10 on Sullivan’s 35-yard field goal, but Brick Memorial scored two straight touchdowns on a 35-yard run by Whittaker and a 2-yard run by Lajara to pull within three points with 5:20 left. Point Boro gained one first down and ran four minutes off the clock but turned the ball over on downs at the Brick Memorial 35-yard line with 1:12 left in the game. The Mustangs picked up one first down but the drive stalled out near midfield as Point Boro held on for the thrilling victory.

Whittaker started at running back in place of injured senior Kevin Andrews and ran for 120 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries and caught two passes for 38 yards and a touchdown. Lajara threw for 175 yards and a touchdown and ran for a score. Sophomore kicker Jack Marotta kicked a 25-yard field goal.

Brick Memorial junior linebacker Trey Tallmadge missed his third straight game with an injury.

No. 9 Donovan Catholic 32, Jackson Memorial 7

Senior Luke Vernieri ran for a pair of touchdowns and had a 79-yard touchdown reception from sophomore quarterback Kyle Dow as the Griffins (2-3, 2-2) capitalized on multiple turnovers to open an early three-score and put away the Jaguars (3-4, 0-4).

Touchdown runs by Ethan Nicolas, Jayden Nascimento and Vernieri gave Donovan a 20-0 lead after the first quarter. A 31-yard touchdown run by Vernieri made it 26-0 before Jackson got on the board with an 82-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Dennis Caswell to senior wide receiver Eric Zebrowksi.

Vernieri capped the score with his 79-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter.

 

Class B South

No. 11 Central 10, Brick 7

Senior quarterback Joe Vezzosi tossed a 5-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Liam Hurley in the second quarter and junior kicker Michael Nieves booted a 25-yard field goal with nine minutes left in the game as the Golden Eagles (7-0, 4-0) remained undefeated and clinched at least a tie for the B South division title.

Central can win the title outright with a victory over Toms River South in Week 8.

James Hirtes threw a touchdown pass to Justice Morgan late in the first half to account for Brick’s touchdown.

 

Toms River South 42, Toms River East 21

Senior running back Jake Henehan ran for 178 yards and four touchdowns on 18 carries as the Indians (4-3, 3-1) scored 35 unanswered points to close out the Raiders (1-6, 0-4) and remain in the mix for a potential division title.

Toms River East led 21-7 at halftime. Henehan scored on runs of 59, 6, 4 and 33 yards while senior running back Damir Nelson ran for 71 yards on just four carries, including a 59-yard touchdown run. Danny Pierson had a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown on defense.

Toms River South can earn a share of the division title if it defeats Central in Week 8.

 

Southern 28, Lacey 7

Senior running back Justin Silva ran for four touchdowns to lead the Rams (5-2, 3-1) past the Lions (0-6, 0-4).

Southern is still alive for a share of the division title if it beats Brick in Week 8 and Toms River South beats unbeaten Central.

 

 

Class C North

No. 12 St. John Vianney 52, Manasquan 20

Sophomore running back Abdul Turay rushed for 232 yards and a career-high five touchdowns on 21 carries as the Lancers (4-3, 2-2) routed the Warriors (3-4, 0-4) to snap a three-game losing streak.

Senior Jahmere James returned the opening kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown and caught a 56-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Zach LaBarca. Brendan Allen kicked a 27-yard field goal. LaBarca completed 12 of 16 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown. Brayden Delavega and D.J. Carter had interceptions on defense.

For Manasquan, junior running back Ace Etienne had touchdown runs of 2 and 55 yards and junior quarterback Matt Antonucci threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Frank Tackett.

 

 

Class C South

Barnegat 22, Pinelands 21

Senior running back Myquan Rush-Esdaile scored on an 11-yard touchdown run and then ran in the 2-point conversion with 47 seconds left before Barnegat’s defense stopped Pinelands on fourth down from the 15-yard line as the Bengals (4-3, 3-1) rallied for a thrilling win over the Wildcats (3-3, 2-2) to bolster their playoff hopes.

 

Nonconference

Class C South

Manchester 42, Lakewood 12

Senior quarterback Aidan Lunn ran for a touchdown and threw touchdown passes to senior wide receiver Imere Smith and senior tight end Ny’Zyr Battle as the Hawks (5-2, 4-0) rolled past the Piners (3-4, 1-3) to clinch at least a share of a division title for the first time in program history.

Junior running back Malik Pharmes ran for two touchdowns and senior running back Avery Phillips added a touchdown run.

Manchester can clinch the title outright with a win over Monmouth Regional (0-7, 0-4) in Week 8.

 

Class D North

Asbury Park 26, Keansburg 7

Junior running back Amiere Massie made his season debut with a 54-yard touchdown run and a 55-yard touchdown catch from sophomore quarterback Jason Whittaker as the Blue Bishops (2-3, 2-2) defeated the Titans (1-5, 0-4) for their second straight win.

Massie had to sit out the first four games per the NJSIAA’s transfer rule. He was at Asbury Park last school year but briefly transferred to Moore Catholic in Staten Island during the offseason before coming back to Asbury Park.

 

Point Beach 21, Keyport 14
