Shore Sports Insider 2025 Softball Player of the Year: Christina Ginex

2025 Shore Sports Insider Player of the Year

Christina Ginex, Donovan Catholic

Earning the honor of Player of the Year in the Shore Conference is no easy task. With a deep pool of standout pitchers and hitters, the competition is always fierce, but Christina Ginex of Donovan Catholic rose above the rest, excelling at the plate and in the field. Her all-around performance and ability to step-up when the team needed her earned her the inaugural SSI Player of the Year.

Everyone knows how good Ginex is at the plate, but it was ability in the field that helped her secure the Player of the Year award. Ginex has a high softball IQ on the field and you can see it with the decisions she makes defensively.

“Christina came up with big plays throughout her career,” said Donovan Catholic coach Debbie Schwartz. “One play that sticks with me is a ground ball in the 5/6 hole with bases loaded and Christina picked it up and threw the base runner out at home plate in her freshman year. That play alone won the game for us against Livingston. She made the same play against SJV in our sectional final game this year. Her nose for the game is her biggest asset. She knows what to do with the ball in her hand. This is such a unique quality today. Offensively, Christina has always found a way to make things happen. She has come up with huge hits in our biggest games.”

At the plate, Ginex finished in the top ten in the Shore Conference in batting average with a .511 average and runs scored with 40. She finished with 11 doubles for the third straight season and hit 5 home runs. Ginex finished the season with 46 hits and reached the 40-hit mark all four seasons to finish with 171 total hits in her career.

This was not the only year that Ginex batted over .500 for the season. Her freshman season at Donovan she batted .512, hit 5 home runs and drove in 35 runs. She is not just a power hitter, she used her speed to steal 9 bases and hit 2 triples.

Christina walked on our field as a freshman and immediately made an impact on our program,” Schwartz said.  “She showed us her great arm, speed, ability to field a ball, aggressive play, and power and poise at the plate. What is most impressive about Christina is her knowledge of the game and her instincts.”

If you are ever at a game to watch Ginex play, you need to have your camera ready to record. She can make a highlight reel whether she is at the plate or in the field. She also brings an energy and excitement to every game that every player, coach or fan can see.

“Christina is a happy go lucky kid who works hard everyday,” Schwartz said.  “She is a voice of reason with her finger on the pulse of the team. Her passion for the game of softball is evident every time she takes the softball field. Christina is a natural leader, one who leads by example.”

Ginex is committed to attend Seton Hall in the fall and will look to make the same impact there as she did at Donovan her freshman season. Seton Hall was able to sign two of the best players in the Shore Conference with Ginex and pitcher Madilynn Boyce from Middletown North.

“I believe Christina will tear it up in the Big East Conference,” Schwartz said. “It was a privilege to coach this kid. We wish Christina much success at the next level. We know she is ready to do big things at Seton Hall University! Her athleticism, great sense of the game and passion will lead the way. I am glad that she is close to home so we can watch her play!”
