Shore Conference Tournament
Round of 16
(14) Point Boro 4, (3) Brick Memorial 3
Catcher Fin Czaplinski drove in runs in both the first and sixth innings, Aidan Dombrowsky and Ryan Kowalewski hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the sixth, and John Loizos stranded the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to finish off a complete-game that sent the Panthers past the defending champion Panthers and into the SCT quarterfinals Monday against No. 6 CBA.
Point Boro struck for a run in the top of the first inning and extended the lead to 4-0 with three in the sixth on consecutive RBI hits by Czaplinski, Dombrowsky and Kowalewski. In the first, Jake Clayton and Matt Lokerson hit back-to-back one-out singles to put runners on the corners and Czaplinski drove in Clayton with a ground out.
Brick Memorial broke through in the bottom of the sixth against Loizos thanks to a two-out rally that culminated in a three-run home run by Dan Golembiewski — the Shore-Conference-leading eighth home run by the Mustangs senior first baseman.
In the bottom of the seventh, Brick Memorial mounted a threat to win the game, starting with leadoff single by Brody Moore, followed by a bunt single by Trevor Kish. Loizos helped his cause by pouncing on a sacrifice bunt attempt and throwing to third for a force out that erased the lead runner. A fly out by Michael Figner moved Kish to third with the tying run, but also moved Loizos within one out of escaping with the win.
Andrew Garcia pinch hit and during his at-bat, pinch-runner Sean Collins stole second base to move the winning run into scoring position. Garcia fell behind, 0-2, but battled back to draw a walk to load the bases. Loizos threw his fifth straight ball to start the at-bat vs. Brick Memorial leadoff hitter Matt McGlynn, but slipped two straight strikes past him to jump ahead in the count before inducing a game-ending ground out to second baseman Nick Carmino.

(4) Ranney 13, (13) Shore 5
Brody Garguilo hit a pair of home runs and freshman Brody McCorkle hit a tie-breaking three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth as the Panthers slugged four long balls and seven extra-base hits to overpower the Blue Devils.
Garguilo’s first homer was a two-run shot to rightfield that gave Ranney a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second and his second was a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the sixth. Brody Mauro later followed with a two-run double that capped the scoring.
David Cantin doubled home a run and scored on a steal of home to extend Ranney’s lead to 4-1 in the second inning, but Shore surged back with three runs in the top of the third with an RBI single by Braden Calandriello and an RBI double by Trevor Doremus.
Shore starter Liam Hennelly pitched a scoreless bottom of the third and retired the first two batters of the fourth before Ricky Lopez drew a walk and Garguilo ripped a double to center to set up two runners in scoring position. On a 1-0 count, McCorkle drove both in, plus one more, with a three-run jack to centerfield that put Ranney ahead, 7-4.
Andrew Barham pulled Shore a run closer with a solo home run in the top of the fifth but Robbie Wrobel countered with a three-run home run in the bottom of the inning to push the lead to 10-5.
Noah Hynes lasted into the fifth inning before J.L. Gallina took over with the bases loaded and two out and fired an inning-ending strikeout. Gallina pitched around a sixth-inning single and a seventh-inning walk to complete a scoreless relief outing.
Ranney will host the SCT quarterfinal Monday vs. No. 5 Rumson-Fair Haven, which Ranney beat, 2-0, at Rumson in the Monmouth County Tournament semifinals on May 2.

(5) Rumson-Fair Haven 9, (12) Toms River South 8
Catcher Luke Gallagher capped a huge day out of the No. 9 spot in the order with a game-winning, two-out, two-run single that delivered the Bulldogs a walk-off win in a wild SCT round-of-16 game vs. the Indians.
Gallagher belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend Rumson’s lead to 7-3 and those insurance runs turned out to be essential after Toms River South exploded for a seventh-inning comeback.
Anthony Abatemarco cracked a two-run home run with none out in the top of the seventh to cut Rumson’s lead in half, 7-5. After a walk, Brett Rankin yanked a double into rightfield to put the tying runs in scoring position still with none out in the inning. Canaan Sanzone grounded out to cut the deficit to 7-6 and move Rankin to third, but a ground out moved Brady Dill within an out of escaping the jam.
Jaden Geremia stepped in and squared up his fourth hit of the game — a line drive to left that scored Rankin with the tying run. Andrew Schmidt kept the rally alive with a single and Christian Mascaro ripped a double to left to chase home Geremia with the go-ahead run.
After Dill — who was responsible for one of the five runs — limited the damage at five runs in the inning, Mascaro took the mound for Toms River South and retired the first batter he faced. Starting pitcher Brady Williams got the Bulldogs rally started with a single and Mascaro hit Lloyd Bush to put the winning run aboard. Mascaro responded by inducing a fly out before Hunter Barrett kept the game alive with a single to left that was hit too hard to score pinch-runner Mike Capra, who held at third.
Gallagher hit a shallow fly ball over third base and shortstop and the ball dropped in, scoring both Capra with the tying run and Bush with the winning run to end the game.
Toms River South jumped out to a 3-0 lead behind Jeremia, who doubled and scored on a wild pitch in the first inning, then doubled again in the second before Schmidt drove both him and Karsin Migliori home with a two-run single with two out in the inning.
Rumson climbed back in the game with three runs in the bottom of the third inning, highlighted by a game-tying two-run home run by Casper Billington. The Bulldogs grabbed the lead on an RBI ground out by Jack Gyimesi in the bottom of the fourth and Gallagher’s home gave Rumson a four-run cushion heading to the seventh.
The Bulldogs will travel to No. 4 Ranney Monday for the SCT quarterfinals.

(6) CBA 14, (22) Lacey 1 (5 innings)
The Colts turned a tight game into a rout with 11 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, advancing past the Lions and into the SCT quarterfinals Monday against No. 14 Point Boro.
Twins Jayden and Jared Matejicka hit back-to-back run-scoring extra-base hits to stretch the CBA lead from 3-1 to 6-1, with Jayden legging out a two-run triple and Jared following with an RBI double. Colin Hoverter drove in his third run of the game with an RBI single that made it 7-1 and Griffin Kilcullen plated two more with an RBI single, with the second run scoring on an error in the outfield.
Parker Hughes tacked on a run with an RBI single, Jared Matejicka picked up another RBI with a bases-loaded walk and Dylan Reynholds capped the fourth-inning carnage with a bases-clearing triple to make it 14-1.
CBA jumped out to a 2-0 lead with back-to-back RBI hits by Ryan Wetmore and Hoverter in the bottom of the first — Wetmore on a single and Hoverter on an RBI double. Evan Greenberg cut Lacey’s deficit in half with an RBI single in the top of the third before the Colts answered with a sacrifice fly by Hoverter to make it 3-1 in the bottom of the third.

Catcher Jake Liotti crushed a tie-breaking two-run home run during a four-run third inning and John Bertan shook off allowing solo home run to pitch a one-hitter as the Rebels outlasted the division-rival Braves to advance to the SCT quarterfinals on Monday.
P.J. Pape hit a game-tying solo home run off Bertan in the top of the third, to which Bertan responded by pitching 4 1/3 innings without allowing a hit the rest of the way. Bertan hit the leadoff batter in the top of the seventh but shortstop Waylon Cavanagh erased him by snaring a line drive and doubling off the runner at first for the final out of the game.
Matt Vetrano smacked a two-out RBI single through the right side to open the scoring in the bottom of the first. Liotti slammed his two-run home run to leftfield with one out in the third and Cavanagh later delivered another two-out hit, this time to score two runs and stretch Howell’s lead to 5-1.

(8) Toms River East 3, (9) Wall 2
The Raiders scored all three runs on two dropped pop-ups with two outs in the inning and Jonathan Pallman pitched four perfect innings of relief to carry Toms River East over the Crimson Knights and into the SCT quarterfinals on Monday.
Wall struck first on a two-run double by John Catanio in the top of the third inning and left-hander Nick Plevier retired the side in order to send the game to the fourth with the Crimson Knights leading. In the bottom of the fourth, Lucas Melton ripped a single to right and stole second base with two out and Carson Frazier at bat. Frazier then hit a pop fly to the left side that Wall failed to catch and Melton cruised home with the Raiders’ first run.
In the bottom of the sixth, Plevier hit Chase Caswell and Frazier followed with a single to give Toms River East runners on first and second with one out. Plevier picked up a key strikeout, but a passed ball moved both runners into scoring position. Plevier induced another pop fly, this time to the right side, and his infield again couldn’t secure it. Both Caswell and Frazier scored on the second Wall error on a dropped pop up.
Pallman, who closed out Friday’s win over Toms River South with five pitches to record three outs in the seventh inning, set down the side in order for the fourth time Saturday to close out the win.

(15) Colts Neck 7, (2) Point Beach 3
R.J. Conover struck for a three-run home run in the top of the first inning, John Glusko added a solo shot in the second and Colts Neck tacked on three more runs in the seventh that helped the Cougars close out a road win over the second-seeded Garnet Gulls. Colts Neck moves on to face No. 7 Howell in the SCT quarterfinals on Monday.
Dan Lubach nearly single-handedly kept Point Beach in the game by belting a solo home run in the bottom of the first and later driving in a pair with a two-run single in the bottom of the third, which pulled the Garnet Gulls within 4-3.
In the top of the seventh, however, Colts Neck put the game away with a two-out rally, starting with a double by catcher Matt Clark. The Cougars followed with three consecutive run-scoring hits, first an RBI single by Dan Annunziata to score courtesy runner Aiden Bain. Jack Dugo and starting pitcher Ryan Rude then followed with back-to-back RBI doubles that stretched the lead to 7-3.
Rude worked four innings to earn the win before senior right-hander Ryan Spencer came on to fire three perfect innings with six strikeouts to earn his third save of the season — all in Colts Neck’s last three games.

(17) Freehold Twp. 13, (1) Red Bank Catholic 10 (8 innings)
Senior catcher Nick Schicchi hit a two-run home run during an early barrage of offense and later hit the go-ahead RBI single in the top of the eighth inning to help the Patriots shock the top-seeded Caseys and reach Monday’s SCT quarterfinal round at No. 8 Toms River East.
Freehold Township built up leads of 5-0 and 8-3, but Red Bank Catholic rallied to tie the game, 8-8. After RBC tied the game on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth, Caseys right-hander and Freehold Township right-hander Dylan Ford combined for the only full scoreless inning of the game, sending the game to the sixth inning, at which point it once again got hectic.
In the top of the sixth, Erol Ramiz hit a double over the head of centerfielder Luke Lonczak with one out and two batters later, Kobe Dancel beat leftfielder Luke Scaturro with a double to deep left, scoring Ramiz to put the Patriots back in front, 9-8.
In the bottom of the sixth, RBC took advantage of five walks and a wild pitch to take its first lead of the game, 10-9. With the bases loaded, one out and a 1-0 count on Jake Frankel, Bradley Santoro took over on the mound for Julian Polo and threw three straight balls to walk in the tying run. Santoro then snagged a high chopper back to the mound and threw home for the force out, but RBC grabbed the lead after a walk and a wild pitch. Santoro ended the inning with a strikeout.
Schicchi led off the bottom of the seventh with a ground-rule double to left-centerfield, but was erased on the base paths when RBC pitcher Glen Popes fielded a bunt by George Burdge and threw to third, where Landon Laido dropped the tag on Schicchi for the first out. Burdge stole second base and moved to third on a ground out to second by Nick Stabile.
Skylar Garcia struck a ground ball to the right side that went off the outstretched glove of lunging first baseman Tyler Hager and kicked away long enough for Garcia to reach first with a two-out, game-tying RBI single that scored Burdge from third. After Popes got out of the top of the seventh, Santoro answered with a scoreless inning around a two-out walk, sending the game to extra innings.
Popes his Aiden Rivera with one out, Dancel singled to center and Ed Gudaitis drew a walk to load the bases for Schicchi. The senior catcher yanked a ground ball through the left side to plate a run and Dancel scored one pitch later on a wild pitch. Burdge lined a shot to centerfielder Luke Lonczak for a sacrifice fly and a third Freehold Township run in the top of the seventh.
Santoro induced a pair of pop flies to open the bottom of the eighth and ended his first varsity win with a strikeout.
Stabile jump-started Freehold Township with a two-run home run in the top of the first and the Patriots poured on three more runs in the inning. Gudaitis hit a two-out, two-run single into rightfield and Burdge — the 10th batter of the inning — drew a bases-loaded walk to plate the fifth run of the rally.
RBC got back in the game on one swing, with Hager drilling a three-run home run to leftfield to make it 5-3. The Caseys inched closer in the bottom of the second with back-to-back doubles by Brayden Harmatta and Lonczak to make it 5-4.
Schicchi delivered his first big swing in the top of the third with a two-out, two-run home run to left and Stabile came through again, this time with an RBI double to stretch the lead to 8-4.
RBC came right back with three in the bottom of the third thanks to consecutive run-scoring hits by Jake Frankel, Miles Nessan and Laido. Frankel smashed an RBI triple, Nessan followed with an RBI single to score Frankel, then scored from first on an RBI double by Laido to pull the Caseys within 8-7. Catcher Aiden Funk started both RBC scoring rallies in the third and fourth innings with a double in each.
